I've been here on the forums for almost a year and a half. My fondness for slippies is the specific reason I ended up in the traditionals section of this site. I was surfing the web one night looking for knife info and I stumbled into this place and have found myself a bit of a home. I think its interesting that there are so many of us from extremely different backgrounds and at different ages that all come here to chat about the things we're passionate about. I can only imagine we'd be a pretty interesting group if you got us all in one room together! That's the great thing about forums, no stereotyping right off the bat, you converse and find common ground or maybe you don't, but not on preconcieved notions, on actual interaction. I guess I'm just really starting to realize that checking in on BF is a part of my day just like going to work. I don't miss too many days and when I do I can't wait to see what's been happening. It's like checking in with the guys after you've been gone. One of my lifelong best friends is also on BF and when we get together we routinely converse about the goings on around here, especially whether or not we're up to date on Jackknife's posts! I've been online for a long time now, but this is the first forum that I've really enaged in and felt like a part of. I've really enjoyed my time on BF and the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blade crew is absolutely the best around.

That covers me, how did you end up finding this place?

I used to go to another forum, and one day someone mentioned this forum, and I came here. I made a comment early on about blades steel snobbery, and MAN did the entire forum come down on me. I mean, I took one hell of a beating from these guys. After a while, some started defending me, and I told them it was all good, i had asked for it. I bent over and took my butt whoopin. I deserved it. After that, though, everyone was cool with me, and I have been here ever since. LOL. I likened it to being in a gang. You get jumped in and beat up pretty good, but once you're in, you're IN. I likewise HAVE to check in here every day to see what's going on. Sometimes I lurk, because the threads are so fascinating that I just can;t say anything that hasn;t already been said. This is home to me.

If I remember correctly, I was travelling down Steel Avenue passed out in the back of Rob or Vince's pickup, which then took a sharp right turn at the intersection of Latest Craze Place and Traditional Way.

I fell out and woke up here. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :D

i found several archived posts here through google searches and finally joined. after getting frustrated trying to login to knifeforums with my account here (not realizing that i was at a diff site altogether) i remembered that i was signed up here, logged in, and started exploring.

i found the traditional forums by happening to click it on my quest to check out all of the subforums. one of jackknife's posts caught my eye and i have been hanging out here ever since.

That's not the way I remember it popsy !

Just like the folks around here, enjoy seeing all the knives posted, I love to look and spend time just drooling over some of the great old knives and the new ones too.

I took a wrong turn somewhere over in Missouri.

What a great place to end up. Most nights, Blade Forum is kind of a second home.

Nice bunch of dudes in here (traditional). I've turned into a major slip joint junkie (nice title for a song).

I've been on Bladeforums for a while now. I've always liked knives, but my specific interests have changed. At first I started with khukuris, then one handed folders, and lately I've been enamored with slippies. I spend most of my time in this place though, the community here is like no other.

I was pretty much all over the web looking at knives. while frequenting the BF and making a rookie mistake, being corrected by the mods, and taking it the wrong way , I got banned. after realizing that I had lost this resource , I had to do a little butt kissing to get back on. Since then as far as knife stuff goes , I only use BF. If I look at another knife site it is from a link here. I consider the opinions and views given here to be most similar to my own. I guess birds of a feather do flock together.

Being a bit older than one-hand-opening folders, where else would I end up? :D

I hang out on other subforums as well, but I've been carrying slip joints (or pocket knives as we called them back then) for more than forty years, so I feel pretty comfortable here. I may not post much here, but I visit every day at least once to see what's happening.

i was doing some research on various knives, found this place, joined, started asking questions. now im answering questions for people, and have made a ton of new friends. im gonna be here a LONG time. its only been 10 months at that!

For me it was all about a story regarding a teacher who had been confiscating pocket knives from her students under spurious circumstances....and then I found Jackknife's other posts and spent almost 48 consecutive hours reading his cache of posts in the archive.
This coincided with finding 3 old knives in my Mom's garage. She is a retired antique dealer; I live in Cali and she and my dad in NC (retired there from LI).
I wonder how many great knives she could have found for me if I had only asked. She said these were her Dad's (he didn't seem to like me how ever I tried..) and they were very intriguing to me. One is a little promo knife from Bartender's Brand; a little fake m--f pearl pen from Imperial. One is a beat up Hammer Brand scout that has the most tasteless scales; it looks like someone molded cheap 50's style linoleum to it and it has a broken bottle-opener/ screw driver. The last has no markings and from what I can see it is a real m-f-pearl bartender's knife with hawk or some bird of prey style bolsters. This one kicked me into old style knife mode big time.
Then I realized how relaxed and social this place was. Good vibes all around and all ages plus lots of wisdom.
Thanks to all the contributors and mods.
This is definitely my E-club house-full of my new cronies.
Thanks everybody!

as far as Bladeforums in general, Ed Schempp turned me on to this place. It's his fault.

As far as the Traditonals forum, I really like multibladed slipjoints, so where else would I hang out?

But there are a few other reasons for hanging out in traditional.

1. You can look at the Bose knives thread. it's always up there.:D

2. Great stories by Jackknife (and others as well).

3. People occasionally post pictures of old knives, especially Sheffield knives, to which I am somewhat partial. Occasionally, Smiling-knife will open the vault and post a pic of a part of his collection.

4. This is the only part of the forums where many of the posters might be older than me. Makes me feel young again. ::eek::D:D:D

5. Seriously, all those folksy people in one place.

I don't remember just how I found bladforums. But I do know what attracted me to this folksy subforum. I get enough craziness in day-to-day life. And this subforum is filled with respectful, knowledgeable, guys with their heads screwed on correctly. I do venture out of our cozy little den from time to time. But every time I read about someone saying the minimum they'd take on a 2-hour walk in a state park is a 12-inch bowie, a one-hand-opening serrated blade in the right pocket and (just for balance) a one-hand-opening plain edge blade in their left, a Leatherman on the belt and a neck knife, I just have to roll my eyes and come ambling back to our set of benches in front of the cyber general store.

I think I came to Bladeforums via a link from edcforums to the big EDC thread in the general section. I then naturally gravitated to the traditional and SAK subforums as that is where my interest lies.

For me it all about aesthetics and function.

Most modern pocketknives just don't have any soul. A knife with all the clips, gadgetry and space age materials isn't something you'll pass on to your son.

I like wood, bone and stag on my knives. It was only a matter of time I suppose before I started collecting slipjoints as well as sheath knives.

A Buck Trapper brought me here. Back in 2001, my older brother traded me a Buck 311 Trapper that had a "Winchester" shield on it. While searching for information on it, I found this crazy place!

Not being into slipjoints at the time, I sold that one. Years later he traded me a Buck 301 wiht the same "Winchester" shield and by then I was collecting Buck slips'. I managed to replace the 311 I sold and the pair are back together.

I don't know...I was on my way to El Paso when I got a flat tire and was picked up by a retired plate spinner from the Ed Sullivan show. We stopped at an old roadhouse in Little Rock to get a couple of drinks and I musta passed out. Next thing I knew, I was coon fingerin and chicken eyein Bose knives.:confused: :D
