How'd you get started

How did I get started? Well, I saw a Damascus blade on the internet and wanted to find out how it was made. I researched it and bought books and vidoes and then thought I would try it for myself. This coming May 28/29 (I can't remember which) will be three years.

It is fun, it is love, and it is definitely hate. Not much different than a woman in MHO.

Do what the others have said and take it slow. Learn what you can from the forums, books, and videos, and then take it from there. It is just a journey, what you learn from the walk is more than what the end means.

I have just always wanted to do this. I got my first pocket knife when I was about 6 years old, cut myself, got it taken away and got another a couple months later. Been in love with knives ever since. I've also had a fascination with smithing in general for as long as I can remember. Bladesmithing in particular but also Wrought Iron, welding, tools(that'll come in handy), and any and everything else you can beat into shape. Problem is, I actually thought it was outdated and not do-able in any realistic way. Imagine my glee when I found out I was full of it. So I picked up an anvil today, and a cross pein. I will hopefully be picking up the materials to make a forge tommorow, building it tommorow and this week and hopefully forging next weekend. Luckily for me I was raised by a jack of all trades type guy who forced me and the siblings to learn how to do everything he could think of, free labor and all that. So I've built in wood, metal, was a lisenced electrician, am a electro-mechanical tech, so I'mn in pretty good stead to get my forge on. And my lovely wife is oh so understanding :D . So wish me luck, I am getting started and I aint turning back till I burn parts off!
