My name is Steve and I'm the webmaster/Network Administrator for Imperial Schrade Corp. This is basically an introductory message to say hello to everyone on the forum. I'm here for pretty much two reasons:

1. To discuss Schrade knives and their more effective application:which, like everyone else here, I love. I Never leave home without my 97OT and every woodworking project I have ever toiled with has involved my PH1 in some way shape or form.

But I'm also here on business,

2. We're getting ready to redo the site this July and I would like to post a preview of what I have so far and tell everyone on the schrade forum about it to get some feedback from the folks who know Schrade the best. I would basically be looking to find out what you think should be added/changed etc. I really believe that the best way to make our company better is to hear from our fans. BTW, Thank you for being your support. It means alot to us.

I do feel kind of obliged to say that I am not a historian for the company, nor am I a schrade 'expert' but I will gladly do what I can to help you folks out in any way I can.

So... Hello everyone!

Welcome Steve, I look forward to seeing the pending changes. PH1 is my favorite Schrade too.

.....IT'S ALIVE!!!!!

Hello Steve,
Nice to see you here. I'm sure we'll be interested in any/all changes and updates. Especially since this is the 100th anniversary of one of our favorite companies.

Tell us more. :)

Bill

Yup.
It's taking it's first gasps in the near future, I am going to officially declare my intentions to upper management this week. We are getting a new host that runs better servers (read: site will be faster) and all sorts of new stuff. even some new, 100th anniversary knives!

Did anyone here sign up for the 100th anniversary Alaska trip sweepstakes yet?

Signed up for the Sweepstakes....Bought a 100th anniversary stockman (#10) through the store. Nice knife. It doesn't seem as though the store is open any longer, or was I dreaming?

Anywhoose, you now have the record for most posts from a Schrade-type person in the last 2 years. :) Be careful or we will pull you in with the rest of "Uncle Henry's Lost Souls." :D

Bill

Steve,

Nice of you to drop by, I´m into computers too, I feel I´m an Old Timer like those good Schrades, having worked with cobol and mainframes since the late 70´s. The Schrade stockman in my pocket I bought new in 1976, that was over 10 years after I bought my first.

My only complaint about Schrade is that they are not easy to find in Mexico.

About the Schrade site, I feel the present site (which isn´t that old really) is fine, pretty easy to move around, of course faster is always nice.

What I would like to see is more historical info, pictures of older Schrades, technical info, construction methods old and new, etc. The Schrade Web museum or something like that, there is so much tradition, so many great knives, such fine people involved.

A place where young and old can learn and enjoy, I feel that making such a site would not cost too much and maybe even help increase sales trough increased awareness and interest in knives.

You may get our good friend LT involved in a project like that, I´m sure he has lots to show and tell.

Steve,
There are several folks here in the forum who are very knowledgeable about Schrades, and the company history. I've learned much from them.
Not the least of which is our very own historian, storyteller, and "Watch Commander" here on the Schrade cellblock, the one and only, LT. Hope he chimes in to participate.
I think Don Luis makes some great points. I too would enjoy some changes/additions like that.

Oh yeah.....What kind of steel is currently used for Schrade+? :D

Bill

Nice to hear from someone on 'The Outside'.

What do you think, guys? Maybe they can post pictures of all our socks on the site.

Sorry, inside joke...

That sounds like a real nice effort. You should definitely talk to LT. He is the Schrade guru, IMHO. A veritable wealth of knowledge, that might otherwise not be passed on if it weren't for Schrade lovers like all of us here always asking questions. I like the idea of old and new. Old is what got you to this point, so obviously new can keep you going.

Keep in touch.

(BTW, has Schrade ever released a limited edition ping-pong ball?)

More Photos, more history and more explanation are definately in the works.
For right now I have to get our current systems up and running pushing new products (we are still a business) but once that is in place I am going to start adding things like you're talking about Don.

I found our company photo albums, there are 4 filing cabinets full of pictures!!! some of which I posted on the current site when I made it. There will be plenty more to come.

The store is not dead, just in pain right this moment...
The software that is runs on decided to become non-functional, which is another part of why we are re-doing things.

Anyway, back to work!

Welcome to the board Steve!
Glad to have someone from Schrade on board, the people mentioned here already have a immense knowledge of Schrade and if they have time could be a good source of knowledge for you.
A couple of questions though.......whats happening in Canada now that Blunco has retired and closed?
Also a lot of rumours are swirling around that Shcrade is getting rid of its carbon steel in its slipjoints.....any truth to that?

Thanks.

Kap

Steve,
Do not feel that you need to ask Mr. Swinden about ping pong balls or socks....it might be embarassing. :o

Glenn was just being......well....BAD. :D Maybe that's where his name came from? ;)

As you sink lower into the depths of......Excuse me, as we all get to know you, maybe we will remember the details of some of the legendary accounts that have graced this forum over the last year or so. We have progressed from a small group of adolescents to an ever growing group of..........adolescents.

Anyway thanks for the answer about the use of 420 steel with a little "Schrade Mojo" added to the process. We are interested in all things Schrade.

Glad to have you here. Pick a cell.

Bill

It is about time glad you are aboard. I will be in the wings mostly watching. Take care of these guys Mr Webmaster they are a great bunch. LT

Hold on for a bit, Mr. Webmaster...

How about a few thanks for the guys who have kept this forum going for the past... oh, what 2 years? Start with our LT, the heart and soul of this forum (Sorry, my friend, LT, but it needed to be said). Then move on to Larry, Bill, Luis, Gregg and a few other of 'Uncle Henry's Lost Souls' who have kept the Schrade flag flying around here.

If you don't know about our fascination with ping pong balls, then it is obvious that you have not looked at past posted messages. Take a look, you'll understand us a bit more.

Welcome to our site.

Phil

Hey Steve, welcome aboard! It will be good to have someone from Schrade onboard again.

Looks like we have to behave now...

This is great, finally a direct line to a Schrade rep. Looks like I got onboard this forum at the right time. Just be prepared for me to bug you about little things like bringing back old patterns, more carbon steel models, etc. By the way guys, I think the best way to celebrate this is to have a "official" Bladeforums/Schradeforums knife project get started. I think that would draw alot of interest and really get this forum rolling again. How about it Schradaholics ? Lets hear your ideas.

I look foward to being here.

OTGuy:
Bug away!, as I said before, I am not a tried and true expert. But I have lots of friends here at schrade and I can act as an intermediary bugger... ;-)

Steve1701d:
Thank you, I wouldn't worry about behaving too much. hehehe

textoothpk:
Absolutely. Here! Here! I really do appreciate what everyone here has done, and in my excitement I did forget to properly tell everyone this.
No, I have not yet gone through the archives. I am going to work on that this week. I only found out about this site a couple days ago from my father (another ex-Schrade employee).

lt632ret:
Sounds like you know your stuff! I look foward to future conversations. I'll do my best.

El Lobo:
hmmm. I must investigate the archives now and discover the legends of these ping pong balls. Oh and I will choose cell number 128, the one high up in the tower, unless someone else has taken it already(?).

Kapt Kopter:
I can see the knowledge base here. It's inspiring. I'm not sure what's happening up in Canada these days, I will have to check on that one tomorrow. About the Carbon steel. We are cutting back some for now... Financial reasons... Most of the knives that have always have the high carbon are now being produced with schrade+. It's unlikely that it will stay this way, but for now we have to take some unpleasent steps to weather a storm.

And to everyone:
I may be a Schrade guy, but I'm not just "The Schrade Guy" I'm here on this board for the same reason that I work here at the factory. I like knives! I'm not exactly sure why there hasn't been someone here for so long... I mostly fix computers and email and stuff, so I just never thought to pop on. But hey, I'm here now.

Wow. You sure are responsive, Steve. That was a real straight up answer you gave to KapKopter about the Carbon Steel. That's refreshing. Again, welcome.
Sincerely,
Phil
