Dip in a nail-polish-remover.
Scrap the blk coat off with, in this case, the spoon.
Then, work the rub with ScothBrite . . . ;)

I've used acetone and gotten the same results although I didn't use a spoon, just a paint scraper :eek: :D :eek:

Hey Iron C,

That particular rat is 3/16". I just posted some Fat porn here though.

Good stuff!!! It's hard to believe how under-appreciated these knives are at the shows. People tend to ignore this knife in favor of the bigger or shinier ones. Rat Hunters sold very quickly at the SAR Conference, but only two of us bought the Howling Fats. Hmmm.

When these hit the store they should really sell quick! The standard HR is unbelievable, these are nearly indestructable.

Your choil is bigger.

I believe that Swamp Rat made this change in response to several customer requests/complaints about the small "non-functional" choil.

I think Howlers rule regarless!

Exactly.
To be functional, I even enlarged a choil of all small-sized Busse's I have: Basic #3 for example. ;)
 
What blade type does a factory new one come with, full height grind, or the more saber ground type?

Hi mogmz,

The most recent batch is full grind and deep choil. Seems the Howling Rats are becoming a bit more collectible as well as usable. ;)

I'm not aware of anybody with all of the variations of Howling Rat. To date, I can count at least seven types.

Saber, Shallow, Black
Saber, Shallow, Tan
Saber, Shallow, Bead Blasted
Saber, Deep, Black
Saber, Deep, Tan
Full, Deep, Black
Full, Deep, Black 1/4"

That doesn't count the variations that came with/without the penetrator tip.

No penetrator tip but a custom... all right, worn(!) piece of finish from one side of the tip! :D loved...
