Upadate....

I fixed the bevel, and sharpened with a 25 degree back bevel and a 30 degree micro bevel. I ground the spine down even with the top of the handle and hit it with some oxphoblue which seemed to work pretty well. I took it hiking last time I went, and cut fuzz sticks, figure 4 deadfall triggers, batonned it through some small rounds, turned a piece of leather into leather thong using the procedure described in tactical knive's review of the rat 3, and it still shaved hair off my arm. Subjectively, I feel it is on a par with the edge holding of my Fallkniven F1, but that is just an opinion as I have no empirical evidence to back this feeling. I did, however, just absolutely fall in love with the finger choil, it is a joyous thing that greatly increases the utility of the knife....I am a happy rat.

Many people only use their first finger in the choil. I have found that I often use the second finger in the choil, with the index finger straight along the side of the blade.

They say the smaller choil works even better, but I have never owned one despite my best efforts.

They are great knives.

I do offer a word of caution about that choil. Be careful when handling other knives -- I have become so accustomed to the comfort of the choil that I tend to forward grip without thinking. I've nearly cut myself several times on other blades.

I've caught myself choking up on some of my other blades since getting my HR as well. I might have to grind a choil on the bigger ones in order to save some flesh.
