Well had my AHA moment the other day now I just used my last piece of mild steel and put alot of time into this. No tang holes or anything cause I don't have any handle material. Can't wait to get some real metal!

Get a piece of bar stock and stick some sandpaper to it. Put it flat on the bevel and work it back and forth. Start low and work your way up.

It is tricky to do, i do what BKT does, i glued a piece of flat bar stock to some oak and use that. Be very careful not to let the sandpaper be slack. That is what washes out the lines. If you are having trouble you might try using a spray adhesive or feathering adhesive to stick it to the barstock. Nick's IG has PLENTY of videos of him using and talking about his sanding sticks.
