I was picking up some school supplies today when I noticed the Parker Jotter pen.

I like the looks of the metal construction, that it's a ballpoint (I hate gel pens), and that the price is within reach.

Is it worthwhile, or should I stick with my cheaper ballpoints?

i like mine and IIRC it wasnt very high, $15 or so maybe? i use the gel refills in mine though, i guess i must like 'em i have 3 or 4 lol.

They're not bad for the price, but I've gotten the clip snagged on stuff before, bending it out of proportion and making it a pain to carry. Nowadays, I'll usually have either a Lamy Safari or a Uni-Ball Gel Impact. I love a good, bold pen.

Keep going back to using them. I have had My Cross fail in the heat, papermates dribble but the jotter keeps chugging on until stolen.

Good Lord that brings back memories of boring lessons and writing lines during detention.....:grumpy:
My Mum bought me a new Jotter at the beginning of every school year and those Parker's were the only good thing about going back to school each year:D
Hard to believe it was almost 30 years ago...

I prefer the Classic to the Jotter mostly for the slimmer profile, but the Jotter is a good pen for the money. I have a stainless Classic in my shirt pocket right now that I have carried every day since August 23, 1986. If I remember right, it is on its' ninth refill cartridge.

There's nothing wrong with the Jotter. You'll be taking part in a 50 year Parker tradition. I used them through jr. high and high school. I've been using a Porsche Design ballpoint for the last ten years and it's awesome. There's no plastic parts so it should last forever.

Think I paid $125 on it and it takes standard Parker refills

Got one in my front pocket now. I carry it everyday--good pen.

I carry an orange plastic barreled jotter everyday. Writes great and only cost about $7 at that auction site.

The folks at my dads church gave me one when I joined the Navy. I still have it. I joined the Navy in July...of 1966.

The Parker Jotters' will take a Fisher Space Pen Refill, too. The http://www.zebrapen.com/products/pen/f-701?c=30 will also take a Fisher refill if you remove the little plastic spacer at the tip. I used the small leatherman blade for that. I quite like the weight and knurling on the 701.

yeah they will but i dont understand why ya would wanna do that, i have had a lot better luck with parker refills vs fisher refills.

I do know that Fisher had some problems with refills for a bit, but I've been using them since the late 70's and haven't personally had a problem.

Obviously YMMV.

My regular "writer" is generally a Waterman rollerball with a G2 gel refill, when I need to do a lot of writing/signing. But the metal pens, especially Fisher, are also in regular use when I'm out and about.

I picked one up today. Still made in the UK.

Seems fairly decent. I hope it stays with me for a good long time.

The arrow shaped pocket clip is really neat.

Picked up a couple of dozen in duty free at HK last year - great for the kids. Don't break or get chewed.
The click can be a bit hard on pockets, prefer Lamy Safaris myself.
Have one I was given in 84 still working fine.

I've got my Dad's Jotter from the 70s and it still works beautifully. I also have a newer UK-made model. Like many things, I think the old U.S.-made version is better, and sturdier, but the UK Jotter is still a good pen for about $10.

Both the Parker and Fisher refills work well in the UK jotter. I think the Parker ink makes a smoother more consistent line, but I still like the advantages of the pressurized Fisher ink.

i bought 3 fisher space pens and some refills only a yr or so ago, maybe 2, and the ones i got just didnt write well, they were very "blotty" if thats a word lol, the ink just didnt seem to come out smoothly, for whatever reasons, & thats been the main reason i never fell in love with space pens FWIW,.
