i was looking at knifecenter and i saw it and i saw it was made og sk-5 carbon steel i have no idea what that is but it sounds cool. And has anyone handled used one what does the handle feel like if you choped with it do u think you would get hot spots? A how do you like it as a hiking camping and trail knife?

The response you will see the most is about how large that knife is Overall: 14 1/2". Most carry smaller knives around 4" inch blades, the other school of thought prefer blades 6-7 1/2". Not to many people want to hump around all the extra weight that comes with a knife that large. Don't get me wrong I do own a Busse FBM (larger then that knife) but even that is a special purpose knife.

There is a guy on another forum that I go to who skinned and dressed a bear with one a couple of weeks ago. I think it would be a pretty unweildy tool for that job, but this guy did it and he does know what he's doing!

It wouldn't be my first choice but I am sure you could do worse...not sure how much they are charging for one but I think you could do better for the money.

Looks like they can be had for about 80 bucks..that's not so bad...You peaked my interest..I'd be curious to see what type of grind they have...Cold steel (to my limited knowledge) puts a hollow grind on alot of there blades..which for a heavy use knife is less than ideal.

for a field and camp knife i find it too small, (functional, but i prefer a larger, longer heavier machete style knifes).

it is a good little knife though, well suited for hiking/camping/field/bushcraft, i jsut wish it was larger.

(one of my EDC is a 16" bowie wieghing around 3 lbs)

John,
all flat grinds..damn tough knife, I regret sever selling my trailmaster. I would like a recon trailmaster..that looks good. I have seen a couple with custom handles, and they look awesome...I think that would be a good project. Gene

The CS knife I referred to in the Bowie thread as a knife I'd like to rip apart and mod as a project is a Recon Scout [small Trailmaster]. I'm totally indifferent to it now being SK-5 as opposed to Carbon V. It may well be a little bit tougher as a result, with a trivial impact on edge retention. The only thing holding me back is it could bear the Taiwan stigmata.

A good friend of mine has the new TM with the SK-5 blade. SK-5 is 1080 steel. He is very impressed with it. If he says it's good, that's good enough for me.
