Sometimes I watch the Home Shopping Network when they have their Collectable Knives show (most are folders and bowies, several unique items and great deals; 100 knives for 199.85 w/ about $10 s/h). But there is the other shopping network, sometimes called Panda Shopping (something like that) and ACN TV, I was watching ACN TV when they had their knife show and when the guy was selling "Chris's dealer case" for $20,000 (and only 142+ knives) I noticed that there were a couple of balis in the pile. I only saw 3 of them and they were all wave handled, when he was describing the knives he came to one of the wave handles and he said, "I won't even touch that!", I felt enraged that he wouldn't even acknowledge them in the show, I wanted to say, "Listen here Cletus (or Jethro), there is nothing wrong with a balisong, they are better than the rest of the POS knives ya got here." People piss me off at their ignorance and unwillingness (or scaredness)to touch a bali or show people on TV. Oh well, I don't need a wave (got one) I have a 42 and some FHM's to play with (and loosen up) so screw him.

When someone is afraid to touch a balisong, I won't even let them. Why? Because it would give their fear a victory. Now, I'll tell them, "Don't worry. I'm right here. I will help you out. But, you have to be willing to trust me and to try." Within five minutes, I can have anyone doing at least one or two simple tricks if they're willing to try. And with that, they've beaten their fear. Next time they face some small fear, they can say, "Yeah, but I was afraid of that funny knife with the whirling blade too and now I can actually handle it. I stood up to that fear and I beat it. I can beat this new one too." This is the very heart of the art of fancy balisong manipulation. Fancy balisong manipulation is not combative itself. If you're attacked, you're not gonna pull off some sort of tripple inverted flip, finger-twirl, propeller spin, finger whip to a toss-and-catch aerial opening. No, you're just gonna go with something very simple, very low risk, very controlled, very fast, very reliable. So, why learn the tripple inverted flip, finger-twirl, propeller spin, finger whip to a toss-and-catch aerial opening? Well, if mastering a whirling ball of steel with a razor-sharp edge somewhere in it helps you take control of your fears, then that is the combative application of the tripple inverted flip, finger-twirl, propeller spin, finger whip to a toss-and-catch aerial opening.

But, if I hand someone my balisong and they sort of look at it and say, "No, I'm scared," and hand it back, then their fears just won another battle. Battles add up to wars. Wars add up to nations.

So, I won't let someone handle my balisong if they're not willing to at least learn one or two simple tricks.
