Hi All,

Started working in 154-CM and liking the material but I am having an issue with the foil sticking to the blade when HT. I am using a Paragon furnace with controller so I am confident that the temps are correct. Double wrap in 309 stainless .002(good to 2240 degrees) cook to 1950. Here is the question. Into the first wrap with the knife goes a small piece of paper to burn off the oxygen in the process I believe it is causing the foil to draw in on its self and contact the blade where it leaves a stain and is then hard to peel away from the blade. It looks something like a hammon but in the wrong and arbitrary places. The second wrap with out any paper in it maintains its shape and does not stick to the first wrap. Is there a solution here perhaps leaving the paper out of the first wrap? Is it possible the foil it's self is no good? Any input here would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ken

If you're 'double bagging' you can use a second hand bag for your first one since its totally scaled up it wont stick to the blade.

I just spray the blade with a bit of wd-40 before putting it in the packet.

A little unscented talcum power brushed on the blade works great for this problem. It is inert so you get no side effects and the residue comes right off. I got this years ago from a very well known maker and it completely solved my problems with sticking.

Yep, Talcum powder does the trick. It doesn't have to be unscented. Buy the cheapest bottle you can find, it'll last you forever.

So I am off to get some Talcum in the morning. Thanks for the help. I will let you know how it works for me.
