I was thinking of trying my hand at forging a Yari style spear blade. I'm confident that i can do the forging, but I'm worried about the heat treating; in particular, the warp that will inevitably occur when I do. Are there any tricks for minimizing the warp, or does it just come down to straightening afterwards?
Thanks,
Chris

Leave some extra thickness on the blade to grind away later. Especially on the edges.
Stress relieve the blade two or three time before the HT.
Use the lower target temps.
Use the proper oil.
After about 8-10 seconds, pull the blade from the quench tank and immediately straighten it on the anvil with a wooden mallet. Don't be shy with the mallet, and be quick.
