HTM custom tanto with urban camo

If I understood your question correctly, you want to order a Gibbs but with two blade profiles so you can swap them out at will. I asked Darrel and, yes, you can order that option but it will be custom of course. I don't have price info on a separate blade, but expect it to be somewhat expensive since the blade is still hand made and hand matched.

Actually I was just meaning a bowie instead of a bayonet but,....... now that you said that I might just have to order the regular one and get a bowie later. I could then change my blade depending on if I'm in a stabby or a shashey mood that day.

Ah. I'm sure the other alternative is possible. I don't see why not. You just have to put in a custom order and tell Darrel you want a bowie instead of a bayonet if you go that route. Otherwise, as you said, you could get both blade profiles at the same time. I'm sure going for one instead of two is a lot cheaper, but two is convenient for switching up.

Pretty sure you can make your own color combos for the camo.
Very belated reply here, but I checked with Darrel a while back and he said that the "urban" camo is the only color option they can do in-house. The reason is that it's created by blasting portions of the handle to create the camo pattern, whereas colors (e.g., red, blue, earth brown, that yellow-green-whatever color) are created through anodizing, which for the HTM knives isn't done at the main DDR shop in Galena (I assume due to the relatively large scale involved).

However, there's a guy who does Duracoat work on knives who got in touch with Darrel via Facebook around the same time as this thread was originally posted. When I inquired with Darrel about the possibility of other colors/patterns besides the "urban" camo, he explained why they couldn't do other colors with anodizing/blasting (see above) but suggested we give the Duracoat guy a try, since pretty much any colors/patterns are possible with that. (I've checked out the fellow's Facebook gallery, and some of the designs he's done are pretty intricate, not to mention colorful.)

I've purchased a HTM Gunhammer for Darrel to send off to be Duracoated with a super-secret pattern. Once it's ready, I'll post a thread about it, complete with pics of course. If it turns out well, maybe sending the knife off for various Duracoat patterns could become another HTM custom shop option.
