HTM-DDR Gun Hammer 2 SAO

My handles are black. Mine is also non assist. I wrote a lengthy review of mine as well for bladeforums. I was fortunate to be the first owner of this style of HTM. Mr. Ralph has refined the handles several times. At the time that we were talking, he mentioned that he just changed to the current 3d machined handle design but wasn't ready to unveil it to the public yet, but decided I should get one. Actually, when I placed my order through him, he sent me the previous version first, but was able to cancel the shipment before it left the post office (because he wanted me to have the current version).

EDIT: BTW, you have the torpedo blade shape actually. Mine is the bowie. You can tell if you look closely. Both are very similar, but you can just make out the difference. Mine's kind of clip point shaped.

I haven't seen the blade shape on mine referred to as "Torpedo" on either the HTM site or True North Knives, which is where I got it from. TNK calls it a "Modified Bowie." But, your right, they're somewhat similar, with yours having more of a clip point, and mine having more of a drop point. They're bothe very cool knives!

Thanks for the info.

Link2derek,
I saw your post on the EDC thread and had all kinds of questions. I really like this knife. But I found your review here and you answered everything. Thanks for the review and opinions. Still a cool-ass looking blade.

Thank you, my friend. Glad I could help!

The torpedo name comes from DDR himself. Here is my review. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8033607#post8033607

I'm curious how quickly yours deploys being that it's assisted opening. Mine is unassisted, by preference, and opens quicker than any of the assisted ZTs that I have owned...and without wrist flick. Mine has worn in to the point where I just need minimal pressure from my index finger to send the knife flying; don't confuse this with a loose ball detent. The knife stays shut until I want it open.

The SAO Action on the GH2 is a little slower than my other SAO’s (Benchmade, Kershaw, CRKT). The blade can be easily deployed by using either the dual thumb studs or by using the trigger. I like the trigger better, and I use the tip of my index finger to “trigger” it. A little flick of the wrist, simultaneous with the trigger pull, speeds up the blade opening. It appears as if it would be a simple task to remove the SAO spring and just use it as a manual opener if one so chooses.

Yea I did read that bit in your review. Just wasn't that descriptive to me since I have not owned assisted Benchies or Kershaws. I suppose the ZT can count as a Kershaw though. Having read that I almost got the impression that my unassisted opens faster than your assisted GH2. I'm thinking once you wear in the knife a bit, it'll open much more smoothly and quickly.

I also noticed that it would be an easy conversion to remove the spring. Actually, I confirmed that with Darrel himself asking in another way. I basically asked if the assist spring could be dropped in if I decided I wanted an assisted knife in the future. He said yea.

I see. Just for clarification, my other SAO's snap open very quickly (say, 9 out of 10 on a speed scale). The SAO GH2 has a pretty slow action (say, 4 out of 10 on the same scale).

Hope that helps!
