HTM DDR Madd Maxx 5.5 Has Arrived!!! w/ Pics...

That is sweet! I've been looking at those for a couple of months now, and this thread just makes me want one even more. Defintely needs to be tip up though.

What do owners and former owners recommend, assisted or manual? What is DLC or Non Glare finishes mean. I want one of these and if I can have it converted to tip-up it should wave right? Should I write an email to the website contact about the chance of making it tip-up? Thanks :D

I've owned... Cuda Maxx 5.5 in P/E and S/E... Cuda Stiletto Maxx... Cuda Dominator... DDR 4" Stiletto Maxx D2 in DLC with MOP inlays... DDR proto Maxx 5.5... DDR tanto Gunhammer marked IKBS... DDR HD Maxx (1-12) returning from Reese... and I'm expecting a 4" Stiletto Maxx with celtic handle in 2 months.

I prefer manual. One of the first things I did when I got the HD Maxx was remove the AO (I told Darrel I wanted manual) and grind off the flipper that doesn't wave. The flipper hook tends to hang up on the draw and can hinder your wave on the 5.5" Maxx's. DLC is the way to go, trust me. If you don't want to lose it one a wave draw, have the pocket clip tip upped so that 1.5-2" sits exposed. Needs a lanyard hole as well... see video.

I prefer manual as well. While a/o are quite robust, most use some form of spring which can break especially if the spring is in the form of a torsion bar. Believe it or not, the torsion bar spring on my 0350 snapped. Besides, a well designed flipper like a DDR opens plenty fast without an a/o.

If you're using the flipper to open the knife then, you don't need a lot of force to open the blade anyway. A/O is helpful if you're having upside somewhere and need to cut yourself free and don't have a flipper tang. That's about the only useful situation I see.

what does the non-lare finish look like compared to the DLC, is one shier than the other or something like that?

Thanks

DLC can shine a bit.

The DLC finish I believe is just a black DLC coating while the "non glare" finish, looks like a dull bead blasted bare finish. I'd personally go with the non glare finish, but I spend a lot of time removing finishes from knives.

Looks like this.

You might think the lighting is poor, but this is actually almost exactly what it looks like in person.

That Gun Hammer Bowie looks really nice harkamus.

I'm on their site right now and it says:

* .09 Thick Titanium lock
* Available with Radian Re-Curve Blade, Bowie Blade, Torpedo Blade

Is that meaning framelock? Are those tip-up available?

What's a topedo blade - they don't show one or I'm not looking in the right place.

Is this a heavy duty knife like the Z 0301 for example?

Sorry for all of the questions but the site should address all of this. :(

Thanks a lot you guys. Darrel Ralph lives just down the road from me and I never knew about it or all of his cool blades! :D

Shit dawg... you're set!

It means the lockbar is .09 inches thick. It's a linerlock on the HTM Gunhammers. The HTM Maxx is a framelock.

It's plenty heavy duty. YMMV though since the 0301 is a framelock. The HTM Gunny is a linerlock with a lockbar thicker than many framelocks.

Torpedo blade shape is pictured in my review: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=728579

Thanks harkamus! That lock bar looks bigger than on my XM-18 and more than a ZT 0301! :D :D

NP. I'd say pay the man a visit. He's personable. That way you can fiddle with some of his offerings. Tell him Hark sent you.

Well, I initiated contact with him through a PM last night but still no answer. :(

I'll tell him you sent me too!

Emailing him works much better.

Try. dralph2 at earthlink dot net or dralph at earthlink dot net

He uses both.

Thanks harkamus,

Mr. Ralph responded to my PM and it looks like I'll be getting one. I kinda have the jitters on this one since ya don't hear that much about them except that they're big - and so is my Rajah 1 if you know what I mean. Payday is tomorrow so I need to decide. :)

You don't hear much about them because until the HTM version came out, the only other version you could get was one of his full blown customs that cost a lot more. Other than that, you had to find a used one that Camilus (sp?) used to make.

BTW, DDR used to make an even larger version which I dubbed the light saber.

This one is the 7 inch version called the Maxx Trident.

Here is the 9 inch version of the Maxx.

:D

Both were custom pieces if I am not mistaken.

EDIT: I'm surprised Charlie Mike doesn't own one of the 9 inch Maxxes; he has a thing for large, sword-like knives.

Some guys hate AO's. I like them. I believe you said your's deployed with authority. That's my last hurdle - to get or not to get A/O? :D
