This is my rendering of the Hudson Bay trade knife that circulated around in the mid-1800s. The blade is created from quarter inch thick 5160 carbon steel and flat semi convex ground. Just the edge was hardened with a flame hardening technique so it is differentially heat treated and the edge is about Rc 58- 59 and I’ve drawn the point down to approximately 54-55 Rc. The antiqued finish on the blade is a patina worked up with common yellow mustard. The wavy line along the edge which resembles a hamon (but is NOT) is created by the artistic application of mustard. The handle full tang with Cocobolo wood scales dove tailed into a brass bolster.
SPECS:
Steel: 5160 quarter inch thick.
Overall Length: Little over 14 inches
Blade Length: 8.4 inches from the tip of the blade to brass bolster.
Blade is 1.9 inches wide at the widest point.
Handle full tang with Cocobolo scales and brass bolster.
Sheath is brown dyed 8 to 9 ounce leather as shown.
Price: $225 plus $15 shipping
I prefer PayPay (my account is kelley_ward2@agilent.com) but also accept major credit cards over the phone (707-479-2530), money orders and checks.
Thanks,
Kelley Ward
