sheesh.

ya try to be nice and ya just get your hide gnawed off ...:D:thumbup:....

i'm tellin' a story about the humble Hawk Project here... time, my brother, just a little time is all i ask....

................

brother 1066vik - not sure whether you are asking about the Daisy Cutter heads or the ECOs or...? oh i see, you are probably talking about the abbreviated poll that we call the Penetrator Poll. - it's got a little bit of a grappling hook grounf under it, and just enough face to still make a good hammer, but it is ground sort of conical, to penetrate deeper than the stock poll does by quite a bit. - a hybrid poll/spike.

dang, maybe you are talking about the mod'd rifleman's hawk heads ....double-dang....

....uh ...i'll be back.

Yeah, methinks that's what he's lookin' at -- which is what caught my attention. . .I think ya might have torpedoed your DC a bit posting pics of those. ;)

no worries.

they are different creatures.

the Daisy's are about 4 ounces lighter, and for the man on the go who might have to get nasty, and the Mjolnirs (which is what i call this type of Rifleman's variation) are for the purists....

i try not to do anything that i don't absolutely love, so i like 'em both.

more to come, Monday or so.

g'night, bros.

Mjolnir for a modded rifleman - for some reason I like that name... :D
and yeah - while the daisy cutter has most of my attention in this thread, that modded rifleman is just sexy - and I still have a 1st gen model in plastic in the basement -- a thread on what/how you did that one up would be appreciated.

Gee the name Skatchet and Smachet were taken. Looks like a rocket for your pocket. In a place where you needed a tool you could take a sapling or branch an inch or inch and a half across, a foot or two long, split one end a few inched don and lash it in place to use.

Kinda thought of something like this, just haven't got it out of my mind and into my hand yet.

the Mjolnirs are pretty easy to do, for the basics anyways. i'd like to see folks dosome filework and other personalizations on their heads if they are going to mod their Cold Steel goodies. - MAXIMIZE.

i like cutting the Riflemans at the "waist" of the Rifleman's Poll - you just want to try to avoid browning the steel if you use an abrasive chop saw - i've used just a new hacksaw blade, and that works well too - good work out.

i have some cool grinding 3-inch pads on a right-angle pneumatic grinder that i fiinish the poll with and somtimes true-up the bit and eye to "agree" as i call it, when necessary. - the heat treat is usually perfect at that point if you kept the head cool.

as soon as you are not patient, expect to fail, i always say.

- one more reason to do multiple heads at a time, or distract yourself some other way, if you need to keep from hosing up the objective.

you can make the new poll shorter, and thereby make the head a little lighter, but the improvements won't be much, and the smaller poll on the waist-style poll really smashes through stuff where a larger face would distribute load more, and be less effective IMHO. - but both ways are good.

HTH.

....as to the Daisy Cutter hittin' or missin' - you ain't seen nothin' yet... i've got a lot to do on that line still, brother....
