Here is a Hung Shing tanto. Zero ground, homogenous metal as in not damascus, equivalent to 1095 and the blade steel is folded over on itself several times to create a pattern. But because it is not etched nor two different steels it is not damascus. The bluish tinted picture shows a bit of the pattern of the steel, wish it was more clear but gives you some idea of the pattern. Blade is about 16", handle about 6", never un-wrapped. Wooden black lacquered sheath,with what I assume is a black silk bag. The box isn't that great but it suffices. This has been polished, and is extremely sharp. Everything is very tight on the tanto meaning the wrap, handle, guard and butt cap. I know there are specific names for them and the terms I am using are not traditionally correct.
This is a diamond shaped blade from the spine to the cutting edge. The point is reinforced by the way it is ground and itself is extremely sharp and piercing. The blade exhibits a very light hamon when held in the correct light along the flat of the edge. This is not a toy, but a very serious cutting tool for tatame` practice, etc.etc. Well I thought the link I posted would work but it doesn't. I am sure if you type in Dao Dan tanto tamishigiri tatame it will take you to Dao Dan's vid's.
