Hunt Saboteurs!

I don't at all feel compelled to respond to the "troll of the week" as his foolishness was apparent. I'm glad that this thread got kicked back up, because many may have missed it originally.

Mac, this line was classic! "Liberal ecoterrorists are the natural byproduct of human indolence and the total disconnect from reality."

Don, here in Washington, hunter harassment is a gross misdemeanor. I have had a bear hunt spoiled by a psycho woman who put herself and her child in danger of being shot. The people in this video, and the "hunt sab" movement, as they would like to think they are, encourage their participants to dress in camo and have hunting tags, so they can appear to be hunters, just unusually noisy ones. The added benefit, in their eyes, is if they get pinched, it will appear that a "stupid hunter" was doing the vandalizing, so hunters end up looking even worse.

Destruction of property is a crime. And hunters are always armed. These dudes are stupid, holier-than-thou assholes who may get more than they bargained for one day.

If there ever was a severe downturn in this country that left people to fend for themselves, most of these lunatics would be dead the first winter and the rest of them would actually eat what is available - meat. People, primarily city-dwellers, are allowed to have these fantastic, high and mighty intellectual ideals because they live in an artificial environment that allows them to live on vegetables and supplements. As long as the artificial environment continues humming along, they will be just fine. If that artificial environment collapsed, they would be hunting and killing and eating the innocent little animals like all other human beings.

Very well put.

These types don't worry me...odds of them being as well armed as the hunting community are slim IMO. I have never put up any sort of stand in the bush but I can tell you that you don't want to be the pallid, anorexic, poli-sci/women's studies major I catch wrecking anything of mine out in the wilderness!

But really, these are city kids. They are rarely exposed to nature, they aren't likely to turn up anywhere I'm likely to be.

I feel a little sorry for them; they have a somewhat skewed vision of themselves as human beings. We were hunters and gathers for the first couple hundred thousand years of our existence. The satisfaction of hunting or fishing has been nurtured in our very most basic instincts through natural selection. While most of us do not need to hunt for survival anymore, the feeling that compels us to do such an activity is very real. I compare it to having sex while taking precautions to prevent pregnancy. The need to engage in the activity may have originated as a survival mechanism for the species, and even today, when the end result is not necessary for propagation or even desired, the need to engage in the activity is very powerful. There is a very emotionally satisfying result from hunting or even catching a fish and releasing it, it satisfies a part of our psyche, we are connecting to our prehistoric past, to what makes us human beings. For these ignorant souls to deny to themselves that they themselves are predators, is well, a delusional fantasy. People who suffer from delusions can rarely be reasoned with.

Flix, very curious about that incident with the psycho and her offspring...Please tell me she just had the kid along with her and waiting off to the side. I have this terrible mental image of some one running out in front of your sights dragging a kid by the hand.

Me personally on all this...I don't hunt. I have no ethical problem with it besides hating seeing animals in pain, all that means is I'd prefer a clean kill in a survival situation, but I grew up around hunters and I find these activists to be both insulting and...So extremely cliche I wish they'd at least get more creative.

Alex,

I have not hunted for years and I have met some less than stellar "hunters" in my time. I have known poachers, hell, I have poachers in my family that do it because they have to. I have known guys who make good money and exceed the limit just because, well, because they're rich assholes and they think the law applies to other people. Which is in keeping with a lot of Americans actually. Hell, you can't fault your neighbor when he acts like a Congressman or a Senator, can you? Well, just a little, right? ;)

I don't like seeing any animal in pain.

wow, thank God we don't have to many of their kind in somewhat rural Missouri where I live. I'd say 80% of the people I know are die-hard hunters (including myself)., so I don't think they'd fare very well around here. BUT, haha, they are more than welcome to try :D

I too have known people that HAD to poach. A friend of mine grew up extremely poor and him and his brother often times had to hunt and/or fish for their dinner. ALthough, I don't have ANY patience for people who poach "for the hell of it" or for any reason other than a true need. The established hunting seasons are there for a reason. My uncle saw two guys poaching on his property while driving some trails in his pick-up (he's fairly old and infirm), after shouting at them from his drivers window they actually shot at him., bullet went through his windshield and knocked off his dome light (I saw the bullet hole). He drove away quickly and called the police, but all they found were cigarette butts where they were sitting. That's my reason for being extremely wary of poachers and trespassers(ie; hunt saboteurs).
