Knife Camping-skinner-utility
Order code (use when inquiring so I know what knife!) K-Da-El-1210
Style-function unique never tried this – double edge for two uses one extra hard one side softer for chopping. Camp hunting knife.
Durability – Blade should hold up on all accounts can pry chop cut Handle is ivory so sensitive to water – other then that tough.
Story or personal info about this knife A lot going on here. I traded for the steel as a roughed out Damascus from Randy at HH knives. I wanted to create a blade with more than the usual uses. The method I use to heat treat is controversial – I heat treat with a torch. One advantage of this method is the ability to have good control over how hard each section of a blade gets. In this blade the back edge is softer and more acute angle for heavy chopping use. This edge will not chip. The other side is super hard for long lasting fine edge of skinning game or where sharpness is critical. This edge would chip if used roughly. The blade has some thickness in the middle so should hold up to rough use like prying- digging. The guard is an Indian head. Etched in steel is a moose and buffalo. This theme is outdoor and kind of mountain man – back to the wilds idea. Handle is elephant ivory- a nice animal product to fit the theme.
Price $375
My knives in general I do all my own work unless stated. Cut my own steel , shape blades one at a time freehand- no pattern. Do my own hardening and equalizing. If etched, freehand one of a kind no patterns, using acid. Been using and depending on knives since 1972 as a subsistence person in the remote interior of Alaska. Handle materials are often materials I find myself in my lifestyle – mammoth ivory, bone, horn, fossils etc. If not I know the source, and material has been personally selected. Guards are usually lost wax cast, my own carved designs, doing my own casting from free scrap metals gifted by our local barge line. Pins usually hand made tubing or copper heavy electrical wire or brazing rod. I make my own sheaths and stands. Often a story in some of it someplace- that helps make the knife one of a kind- personal. My methods, work and life is ‘unorthodox’ so if you have a specific use for a knife you may want to inquire to verify the knife you see will suit your needs.
