Knife

imag019.jpg

Order code (use when inquiring so I know what knife!) A-k-jade-1210
Style Function drop point small skinner – concealed dress utility knife
Durability wide for it’s length makes it tough edge hard back soft can withstand rough use
Story or personal info about this knife I wanted to try ‘stone’ as a knife handle material challenge. Hard to work- needs diamond tools – and use of mammoth ivory for a sheath material is not common and I have experimented with this. Both jade and ivory are local to Alaska and found by me along the Yukon River.

Price $395- with ivory sheath

My knives in general I do all my own work unless stated. Cut my own steel , shape blades one at a time freehand- no pattern. Do my own hardening and equalizing. If etched, freehand one of a kind no patterns, using acid. Been using and depending on knives since 1972 as a subsistence person in the remote interior of Alaska. Handle materials are often materials I find myself in my lifestyle – mammoth ivory, bone, horn, fossils etc. If not I know the source, and material has been personally selected. Guards are usually lost wax cast, my own carved designs, doing my own casting from free scrap metals gifted by our local barge line. Pins usually hand made tubing or copper heavy electrical wire or brazing rod. I make my own sheaths and stands. Often a story in some of it someplace- that helps make the knife one of a kind- personal.

Display or sheath info Comes with mammoth ivory sheath. Ivory found at an old mine along the Yukon River had the natural curve of a sheath. Back is I forget the name new high tec plastic that heat forms to the knife. Rivets silver band and end casting hold sheath together durably.

I found your website Long before I ever came here. Your work is very interesting, I admired it then & continue to. Your crafstmenship is very very unique & appreciated.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Working stone for scales is a challenge. I think any time we talk totally hand done- original- unique- never to be repeated design, you got the only one- we are going to be talking bucks. I wish it was not so. Seems to me like those who need knives the most and depend in them do not have money – the poor are getting more poor. But the rich are getting richer. Since it takes me an hour just to post something for sale, I’m reluctant to post my low end items or give major discounts. I’m new here. My first knife sold in 2 hours for full price. I like to think it’s a fair price. Time will tell – comments are welcome. As I said I’m new here.

I`m interested in this knife and was wondering will it hold up to digging arrows out stumps?

Dig in a stump? The quick answer is “Yes’ The longer answer is…. It seems your need involves 90% the tip of the knife. Do you like the Shape of the tip? It is broad- so not likely to break, but also not fine pointed to dig deep with. My concern might be you cannot beat on the back of the knife as you might with a digging tool to get deeper faster. The blade will hold up well for prying. I personally would not hesitate to dig an arrow out of a stump with this knife. I would however create a different knife if this was the only use I wanted it for. I hope if you get this that you have other uses for it as it is a nice skinner if you hunt with a bow, and fine all around utility knife. I also think the sheath is really distinctive. (!)

I do not feel it is a good thing to reach out and grab a customer and make a sales pitch to force a sale. I like to think I have said enough, and the knife is there to see, I guarantee it will be as I say it is. It is now up to you to make up your mind. If you like it, you will never see another even close to being like this. Let me know. Miles

Well I`d have over 400.00 into it with shipping..I`m sure its well worth that but to me thats alot of money right now with the economy going like it is..
