Don't Let Us Get Sick

Warren Zevon

Don't let us get sick
Don't let us get old
Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight

The sky was on fire
When I walked to the mill
To take up the slack in the line
I thought of my friends
And the troubles they've had
To keep me from thinking of mine

Don't let us get sick
Don't let us get old
Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight

The moon has a face
And it smiles on the lake
And causes the ripples in Time
I'm lucky to be here
With someone I like
Who maketh my spirit to shine

Don't let us get sick
Don't let us get old
Don't let us get stupid, all right?
Just make us be brave
And make us play nice
And let us be together tonight

Sometimes it just becomes too much- Hemingway, Hart Crane,et al.
There will be firearms discharged.

'I didn't tell him about the bats, the poor fool would see them soon enough....'

Rest in peace Hunter you mad genius.

The first sentence of the last paragraph of "HELLS ANGELS".

"It had been a bad trip...fast and wild in some moments, slow and dirty in others, but on balance it looked like a bummer." .........:(

It sucks when someone eats his gun...I hope his family doesn't blame it on the gun.

saw him on conaan obrian... they were shooting an ar15 in between sips of burboun. Seriously that news story is almost enough to get me to stop drinking, alcohol does makes you suicidal.

I was saddend to read that Hunter S. Thompson died. Blew his Brains out with a .44 mag. He might not be of the political and value spectrum of some of the posters here, but he was writing a mean pen. Plus he had more verve in the dirt under his fingernails than Micheal Moore in his whole large frame.

salut Dr. Duke!

I merged the two threads together on the same topic. :)

Who was he?

Aside from just being a funny writer I credit Hunter S. Thompson for puncturing the ballon of pomposity that I have seen in so many journalists. I have hung around a few of the expat/journo/aid worker crowd in Hong Kong and Vietnam and they always try to give the impression that they are 100% objective and that this is somehow a kind of superior intellectual plane that one must reach. This is such bull - even a physicist, supposedly the most objective of scientists will tell you that it is impossible for the observer to not affect an experiment in some small way.

Hunter is credited for the 'gonzo' style of journalism, where, rather than describing an event from a detached position - he gets right involved and makes himself part of the story.

Abandoning this illusion that objectivity is possible is rebellion at a real fundamental level.

Other than that I've heard he was a real bastid :D

I loved what he had to say about Dubya, (im paraphrasing here!) but how he (Bush) didnt speak for him, his family his friends or anyone he respected!
He compared four more years of Bush to four years of Syphilis! LOL
I have a great deal of respect for the US and its people, & Im proud of the "special relationship" between the UK & US, but, like many Britons, Ive VERY little time for Bush!
Sorry!

RIP Hunter S

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. -Hunter S. Thompson

My uncle flew a B-17 out of Polebrook against 75% odds of returning so that StuToffee could have a chance to be on this forum.
