Hunter S. Thompson RIP.

My Grandfather fought & died at Normandy for much the same reason, mate, My Grandmother was a Radio operator for The SOE, and my other Grandad flew in Lancaster bombers (He survived the war, and always told great stories about American flyers!)
Please dont turn this into a UK vs. US slanging match, as I said, I have great admiration for the US, its people, its fighting men & women (and its knives!), but I said I have little time for Dubya, and Im led to understand quite afew US citizens feel the same!
Im sorry IF you felt this was a personal attack on America by me, it wasnt!

Best wishes.

Stu & Goldtanker,

DO NOT TURN THIS THREAD INTO A US/UK BASHFEST!

That goes for everyone else as well. This is the Community Forum, not W&C, not The Cove, not the Political Arena. Play nice or I lock the thread.

I loved what he had to say about Dubya, (im paraphrasing here!) but how he (Bush) didnt speak for him, his family his friends or anyone he respected!
He compared four more years of Bush to four years of Syphilis! LOL
I have a great deal of respect for the US and its people, & Im proud of the "special relationship" between the UK & US, but, like many Britons, Ive VERY little time for Bush!
Sorry!

RIP Hunter S

Personally, and like many Americans, I've NO time for your nanny state socialism. :barf:

I guess I'm talking to myself here.

Please get back on topic or I will lock this thread or split it.

You're not talking to yourself -- the posts crossed. That happens a lot and it's not only moderators who get confused.

See, a lot of people read forums by right-clicking and choosing "open in new window." We open maybe a dozen threads in different windows and then we read them all, which takes a while, and write replies, which takes longer, and sometimes something happens to call us away from the computer and it takes even longer. I figure anything posted a few minutes after my post was almost certainly written without seeing my post, and sometimes posts can cross as much as an hour or more apart by the timestamps.

That's getting less common now as more people get broadband and don't have to open threads in a new window to avoid waiting for them to load, but half of America is still on dialup, and even people with broadband take time to write a post....

I just enjoyed reading some of the comments about Hunter S, thats all. But to be honest, Im really here to chat with fellow knife enthusiasts, and not about politics! IF it helps, guys, Im NOT crazy about our "nanny state socialism" either! LOL
Aplogies IF I offended anyone, that was not the intention.

I found Mr. Thompson's writing quite interesting. The first book that I read of his was "Hell's Angels." Though at times I did not agree with him on his ideas I always enjoyed his viewpoint. For lack of a better term he seemed to be thumbing his nose at the establishment. I am suprised that he did last as long as he did thogh . I fugured that some sort of liver ailment or drug overdose would take him before suicide.
I was watching the news last night and it has been said that he wants to be cremated and the ashes shot from a cannon. Only you Mr. Thompson. I hope you get your final request.

Well, I hope that they shoot that cannon load of ashes from his backyard and late at night.
The peacocks are used to it.

Judging from the current situation, I would say that it is most definitely you. I'm getting the feeling that you're not much of a critical reader.

Nope, I didn't resurrect the old post about the dead man, it was Stu, but his post got moved to Whine and Cheese. So thanks for making me look crazy, Ken (or whoever it was that moved the post). Here I am, Macbeth, freaking out about the ghost of Banquo that only I can see.

You're not crazy - I saw it too. :)
