The steel I use is san mai, core 1070 and the sides are made of 420 stainless steel, it is hand-polished to 600 grit, and I have left a rough forging on the blade.
It has a hardness of 59 hrc on the edge.
the guard is made of 420 stainless steel, and the wood of the cape desert ironwood.
