For those of you that remember or participated in the "name your own mod BK14 giveaway" I did last month know that Mr. Hunter Sharp was the winner. So I'm converting (or at least gonna try) this 14 into a mini hollow handled survival/hobo fishing kit knife. Many of you requested that I do a WIP thread so here it is for all to see my triumph or fail. Now keep in mind that this thread will probably drag on for a long time since this is a back burner project. So I will keep updating it as I do the work.

The very first thing was to strip the knife. Which I did tonight. I usually have Murph strip any knives that I want stripped. But I forgot to give it to him the week before last and he wasn't able to make it by the shop last weekend so I thought I probably ought to get crackin. So here's some boring stripping pics you've all seen a million times:

That's it for tonight folks! More to come!

Oh. Well now, don't I feel stupid........:D

Ehh don't worry about it :D

Another question. Just below the Kabar/ BK&T logo it looks like theirs a small notch on the edge of the handle. Is that a shadow or did you get to grinding too early?

No, must be just a piece of the coating I didn't wipe off.

O.k. time for a update: now I've been throwing around how detailed I wanted to get with this. My conclusion was since you guys wanted a WIP thread to do it as simple as I could. I thought I just use everyday stuff you all can get. So 4 bucks worth of pluming fittings was bought today and then I realized that not everybody has a lathe so the simple part my go out the window. But hey, I tried.

Just as I figured. The handle of the 14 is soft. So that means I can cut it and if I'm carefull with my heat. I can weld it

I also turned the front plugs. Now before you guys tear me apart. Let it be known I've never made one of these before so I'm just winging it. So be nice!

I havnt figured out how I'm gonna do the cap yet. Like said I'm wingin it. But Murph just stopped by and he had a small compass that we set on the end to get a visual.

That is all for now. I got other stuff to do and beer to drink!

you going to knurl the handle?

No. My knurller isn't knurlling like a knurer should knurl. :D I got a few ideas of what I'm going to do instead but like I said earlier I'm kinda just figuring it out as I go.

turn some shallow grooves, wrap it in seine line and epoxy coat it?

Wow! It looks just like the picture I came up with! You have some great ideas in that head of yours TM. I love it so far
