Good lookin' mod, friend! :) Can't wait to see the finished product. Never seen a super-durable hollow-handle, so I'm curious what kind of abuse this thing can take.

Thanks. Of coarse I probably need to explain to Mr. Hunter Sharp that this voids the warranty. ;)

Haha depends on what you consider abuse ;)
I'm surprised to see how many people like the idea! Most "knife" people cringe when they see a hollow handled "survival" knife, but this blade is in no way cheap! It looks bullet proof, if anyone can get it right I know TM will. Plus it's a BK14... Was a BK14, and I will not be chopping trees down with it! Nor will I be batonning huge logs! It will take on the tasks of a normal 14, only with the bonus of having its own survival system contained within the knife itself. I think it's freakin awesome! :D

Rambo envies your knife. tradewater will probably steal it.

This would be unfortunate. Because even if he swiped it. You could beat the sh!t out of him to demand it back. Seeing as how old he is. No matter what terrible thing you did to him, he'd probably forget what he did with it. So you'd never see it again.

Oh yeah Hunter Sharp. I know I can do it. And you already won. So quite being a suckass! :D

Wait... Your saying I won? Oh hell yea!
I didn't even know this was a contest, I was suckingass out of the goodness of my hart!
So what did I win? :D

You won an Attaboy.

Attaboy.

Todd, you can send the knife to me.

just so you all know (Mr. Hunter Sharp) I have not stopped or forgotten the BK 14 hollow handle project, here's a small update, haven't done much on it lately, but the wheels are still a turnin, I did order a couple of button compasses, don't know which one I'm gonna use yet, but whatever I figure out its gonna have a compass in it as a nod to the old cheepo's we all had as kids. Here's a new pic

Don't hate your just Jelous :p

I can relate.....I'm most certainly jealous....I thought my Military tribute push dagger was an off the effing hook idea.

Too bad for all of us I couldn't get a second on that...;)

The knife does look good though I'll admit. Nice work TM. You're a lucky man HS.

If you want to really nod to our childhood, why not put one of those big bubble compasses on the end there? LOL just kidding. Rock on

I love it! Any thoughts on how to mount the compass or how the steel handle will affect it? Well they put them on the cheepo knives and they worked just fine, but I can't remember if the handles were stainless or not.

If the compass is in a cap that's removable, that you can hold away from the knife when using it, it should be fine. Some Stainless steels are non-magnetic, so if the stainless used in the handle is non-magnetic, the user might be able to leave it on the knife - provided it's far enough from the blade. (RMK permanently installs small compasses in the knife handles of some of their models, so I figure it should work.)

Really cool project.

Yeah you guys all bring up valid points. I've already ran into a thousand things id do different on another one, but I'm pretty dedicated here. I originally used the plumbing pieces thinking it could be simple for everyone to do, at home, since it didn't turn out so simple, I wish I just would of made everything from scratch, but like I said, I'm dedicated now. The cap is got me a little hung up, I,m thinking of turnin one of bronze but don't really have a way to make the pipe threads. The compass acts pretty screwy sittin on the plug I've been using. I thought about incorperating it in the sheath, but that's a easy way out. I'll figure it out. One thing cool though, you'd guys be suprised all the sh!t you can fit inside it.

Won't your lathe cut threads? The other option would be to go to a hardware store that has a pipe threading machine and ask them to thread your plug for you. Or go and buy a giant tap and die set.

My lathe will cut threads yes, but I don't have the cutter to do it. Don't really want to spend the $$$ and the shipping on a knife I'm giving away. (Sorry Hunter Sharp ;) )
