I recently ordered some refactory cement (Satanite) to recoat my forge and as long as I had it on hand I thought I would try doing a blade with a differential quench using the "clay" method. It took several attempt but I finally got this result. This is a thin blade with the grind all the way to the spine which makes for an excellent slicer.

Stock removal from 1/8 inch 1095
Heat treated in my shop with attention to a fine grain and excellent edge holding
Flat grind with a mat finish
Black canvas Micarta sanded to 100 grit for grip
Overall length: 8v 1/2 inches
Blade: 4 1/4 inches
Leather scabbard with a belt loop
