This is a hunting falchion that I recently made. I was inspired by a few different historical hunt swords and falchions and this is my interpretation of a logical merge.

Purpleheart handle, steel hilt and double false edged blade with fileworked spine.

Blade is based off a 3/16" blank and is quite rigid.

Very nice work sir...

I would like to know what was a hunting falchion used for in traditional uses and why...

was it just a sword they carried with them on a hunt?

I don't think there were hunting falchions, they were narrower and straighter for thrusting into the heart. Traditionally hounds were used to keep the game occupied while the hunter positioned for a kill shot with sword or spear. I believe there are many hunters today that use knives for the same sport.

Hunting hangers were a well known phenomenon often they might have looked something like this:

My understanding is that they were typically used to dispatch wounded game. I've never heard one called a hunting falchion before, but there's lots of things I haven't heard before.

Very nice. I would love to see the rest of the blade. I have never heard of a falchion referred to as a hunting falchion as this type of sword usually was not used in hunting. But as far a sword goes beautiful job.
