hunting knife conundrum - s30v or D2?

That looks like a real beauty. Congratulations.

The heat treat holds up just fine. Mine's a year old and still hasn't needed to be sharpened.

As far as other USA-made Gerbers, I know the Mark II is made in America. There may be others I'm not aware of. Then again, there may not be.

That is a nice looking knife, and in US made S30V, too! Sweet!

Now, I'm not much of a fan of stag, so I'm thinking that would look even better in some linen micarta. :p

OR, you could save up your pennies and just buy a Bob Dozier knife in D2! :)

I have quite a few of Bob's knives and no one does D2 like Doctor D2 - Bob Dozier!

As a side note, I've had a few of the Cabelas S30V Buck knives and really liked 'em. I'm sorry I sold 'em off to pay for other knife purchases...

Regards,
Mike

Well, the handle is held on with some torx screw/rivet things, so replacing them with some custom micarta handles shouldn't be that hard...

Howdy,

I'm glad you like you're new knife!

I just got a Gerber Freeman Stag this weekend. I really did not like the way the lanyard looked or felt, so I took it off (dremil tool, die grinder & sand paper). In my opinion, it looks much better without it and feels better too. I took the metal down on the end of the grip so the steel is uniform around the entire grip.

The only other thing I don't like about it is the fit and finish of the grinding on the blade. The two relief grinds on the top of the nose of the blade don't come back the same amount and the spine of the knife is not flat, but kinda rounded off (not uniform).

I am interested to see how the Gerber S30V heat treament holds up to use.
