ok so my stepdads b-day is coming up and i was gonna make him a nice knife to replace his pos freebee china made novelty knife
images16.jpg
. however i have no ideas that come to mind. he likes light so that is a must. and he will use it for hunting and Light butchering. he prefers a -5 inch blade so thats a consideration. ANYTHING to get him to stop taking my knives cause it takes me WEEKS to get them back (he likes my buck vanguard). i want this to be made by me so it it more meaningful. any ideas (steel, shape) pics are the best.

thanks

A 4-5" drop point is a classic hunter. Clip points fall in there as well. My two favorites by other makers are David Loukides and Art Summers. Of course the Sendero by Fisk is a classic. That should give you some ideas, but have you made a knife before? For steel I like 1/8" D2 or 1080-1095.

The blade shape on the one in your pic is a classic shape and will work well.
