Hunting knife gift idea

Check out some of the Dozier offerings sold by AG Russell. These are handmade knives in mostly D2 steel. Most hunters love them. Look at the K-22 Buffalo River skinner which runs about $205 in Dozier's featured inventory today. http://www.dozierknives.com/images/documents/inventory/07.28.15.k-22.jpg This is a knife he should prize.

This would be my first choice. Great design by one of the knife-building masters. Looks beautiful...and practical.
Your father-in-law would be very impressed... (me, too)

Dozier or Bark River would be very nice.

Kniveshipfree currently has great 'moving sale' prices on their Bark Rivers.

So after looking around I found Bark River knives classic drop point hunter, Elmax steel. Can anyone speak about this knife maker? Any e pertinence with them?

Great choice. Bark River makes beautiful Knives, i don't own one myself (yet), but hear a lot of great stuff about their product. (I've heard more negative stuff directed toward the owner then the actual product, but that's not my beef so). And their plethora of handle options gives everybody something they'll like.

I do own some ELMAX though and it is a great clean steel, my favorite thus far of the "super" variety for it's balanced properties. I just recently posted in another thread that i personally am a huge fan of "balanced property steel",It has pretty good stainless qualities to resist rust, takes a real keen edge, and has a great balance of the harder carbides IMO; enough to retain an edge for a good while longer then your standard variety steels, but not so much that it sacrifices too much toughness or becomes a complete pain in the *** to sharpen... If your father in law is more your average guy with average guy knife appreciation, then ELMAX is a great choice, (again IMO), for a "knife novice", because it is a super stainless steel, but not so super you need an owners manual to learn how to sharpen and maintain it.

And even if he is a knife nut, he'll still appreciate a blade in ELMAX steel... It's a great all around steel you really can't go wrong with.
