Hunting Knife

In my opinion you can't go wrong with a CS Master Hunter in Carbon V. Last year I used mine to work up 3 deer without touching up the edge.

Agreed on this one, but you'll have to find it in the secondary market.

Carbon V ("Carbon Five") came out of the Camillus plant for Cold Steel, and Camillus is now gone. So is Carbon V.

I think the AG Russell Deer Hunter would be a great knife. The AUS8 is $50, but IMO it would be worth the extra $5 for the VG10.

I consider the Cold Steel "Master Hunter" the very best "cheap" knife ever made if you can find one in Carbon V steel.

The RAT-3 does better in a close-to-the-body Kydex, in my opinion. I made a leather one for mine but I've since gone back to the Kydex.

The best really cheap hunter is the stainless mora. I am usually a carbon steel or tool steel guy but the Moras are just as good in stainless. I used to sell trapps and other gear to the fur trappers here in Saskatchawan and they loved the Moras because the were sharp ,the right shape ,had a good handle and were very very cheap. Those guys are very tight with their cash. You don't want anything thicker than 3/16th for skinning.

Other good choices in a 20-25$ knife are the classic Russel green river knife.
I think it is made under either the Russel or Dexter label. It is carbon steel and period correct if you are into re enacting. If it can skin a bison a deer should be easy.

Bacman99,

I have a vintage Schrade Old Timer 1520 Sharpfinger you can have for $30 if you have a tight budget. I was saving it for my daughter, but she never caught the hunting bug, so it's yours if you want it. It takes a mean edge.

Moran drop point hunter. High quality VG10 stainless blade. Easy to sharpen and holds a fine edge a long time.

Classic design.

I have one. I wish I saw this price before I bought mine.

$59.95. Wow great price. This is a lot of knife for not a lot of money.

Fallkniven F1 $75

Another incredible knife, worth every penny, and this is a great price.

Russel Deer hunter $49.95(aus 8)-$55 (VG10)

Kabar short "marine" knife 5" blade $44

Pick a /Frost/Mora $10+ inexpensive, not cheap. Look at the #740 if you want carbon. #760 if you ant stainless. #S-0125 (blue handle) for a useful
5" blade.

There are others, don't sweat it. Get one, and use it.

Any Idea where I can see a picture of the sheath that comes with a Queen Drop Point Hunter ? I've been on several sites looking at that knife and they mention leather sheath but no picture.

This is not exactly a drop point--but it is hard to find a better knife for the money. This is a great carbon steel and made in the US.

It is a Marble's Fieldcraft knife with a Gamegetter handle--they have not been made for a long time, and probably won't be made again like these. IMO it is a ton of knife and right in your price range.
