Hunting knife....

I want to ask for a hunting knife for my birth day. I'd like it to be ground like a native, or a al mar sere. That kinda spear point with the one side dull. I really like the looks of the Tom Krein TK-5, does anyone know what they go for?

Here's the specs I'd like.

Under $150.

154cm, 1095, D2, S30v or any nice carbon, stainless steel, I'd rather it be 154 or s30v.

Not made in China

4.5 to 5.25 cutting edge

Micarta, or a nice wood

Thanks in advance....

Why not support one of WSS's own, Stomper. With "your design or mine" John (JK knives) can make you whatever you want, and I'm sure it could come around right at your price point. He works primarily in tool steel, and can accommodate whatever handle material you like. He's shipping me a knife tomorrow (I guess it's today now), and I sent him the scales that I wanted on it. At least check out his current models, but keep in mind he can make anything you want.

MOF - I really like the BRKT Upland Special...I have this one:

Bark River Woodland Special, only knife I use...cleaned plenty game with it already...The 3.5" blade is real handy while gutting and plenty enough to skin and debone too.

I have been using the Mora 740 for several years without a hitch. They hod a edge well for several deer.,

Another vote for a BRKT Gameskeeper. The A2 holds an edge very well and is tough. Last fall my father harvested a moose and we field dressed it, skinned it and quartered it up with the gameskeeper, a knife he had and a small game saw. I never had to sharpen my knife, but my father had to sharpen his at least three times and he remarked at how my knife was performing. My wife and I bought him one for Christmas and he can't wait to use it on game. The thing I always recommend to people looking for a hunting knife is that no matter what knife you decide on, make sure it has a finger guard for safety sake. An integral finger guard is fine, just something to keep your hand sliding down on the blade when your hands are cold and slimey. I have never had this happen, however I have heard it happen enough to know I don't want to take chances like this in the remote wilderness.

Hey Masteroffahitas
Do you have an rc3 or rc4? I think I've seen you post them. Cut a lot of meat in slaughterhouses and trapline and either are perfect for skinning/gutting etc. Very good blade size and geometry with lanyard and in your price range. Unless your hunting moose or elk you really don't want a 5.5 to 6 inch blade unless you are proficient and feel comfortable choking up on the blade. For processing cuts get a tramontina or frost/victorinox butcher knife for at camp in 8 to 10 inches. By the way if you have a BK9 this is a good butcher knife as well as campchopper, I have told Ethan myself and he appreciated the comment.
Whatever you choose good hunting!!

Your gonna see alot of BRKT suggestions and other good ones. I am gonna go a different route and say look in the Makers forum and see what customs are listed in the For Sale Fixed Blades area. There are alot of makers who put out stuff similar to what you have mentioned for very reasonable prices. Go take a look over there and see if anything fits the bill.

I just found one sold by a maker that may fit the bill: You could always ask if he'd make another or modify one to your liking
