hunting knife

Interesting. I have one of the woodswalkers from AG as well, but thought it would be too small for deer. I might have to give it a second look!

If I were to pick one hunting knife under $55, I would probably go with the Buck Vanguard, although the 119 ain't bad either. YMMV.

I've taken deer from on-the-hoof to packaged meat with a fixed blade trailing point knife (Schrade 165OT Woodsman), a small modified skinner (Schrade Sharpfinger), and a really small stockman just to see if it could be done. The hunting knife performed better overall. And it has done a yeoman job with all camp chores as well. But I didn't feel disadvantaged with the smaller skinner either.

Get a Buck 102 Woodsman. Very versatile knife and makes a great skinner. While it appears to be a bit small (4" Blade), it is a workhorse -- very stout/strong.

While yer at it, get a Buck 110 or Buck 112 to go along with the Woodsman. Can't go wrong.

I love the Buck 102, I never thought I'd like such a small blade but its large enough to handle big jobs and fine work as well
