Tell me about the tree with all the spines. What is it and where is that at? I know a lot of trees by sight but that one looks like a nightmare.


It's called a honey locust tree. We have them everywhere around my part of KS.

That's in central Ohio and it's some horrid species of locust - honey locust if I recall correctly. Careful - it bites!

I grew up near Louisville and I never recall seeing a locust tree with spikes like that. Thorn yes but that just looks mutant. Be sure to send the tree huggers toward that one.
 
Those honey locust trees have the hardest heaviest wood I ever saw. I once had a chainsaw, 3 wedges, and a pickup wheel cone splitter stuck in a piece of it all at the same time. I had to go get another chainsaw to get everything back. Oh, by the way.... nice knife.
