Hunting with Traditionals - A thank you to Papa Andi (WARNING! Pictures of mi...

Prickly pear cactus-now that is a massive noxious weed here. There are areas where it has taken over forming impenetrable thickets measured in square miles. Eating those fruits is dangerous. It is the the Fugu fish of the fruit world.

Thanks for the story, Thom. Your pics are great, as usual. I´m glad it arrived fast and save (at least this time) and you like it. The knives themself have followed me sometime and I really learned to appreciate every single one of them :)

Just for clearance, in the beginning of May this year I was sending Thom a big package with a lot of fine bavarian black smoked meat, liver dumblings and some really great local sausages... etc etc.

The package never arrived and I almost thought it was lost in the depths of delivery or Britisch Customs hade a nice meal on friday noon before they went along for weekend :p :) :D

But ten weeks later the package returned to me and the smell was horrible ... this was in the midth of August  The cute girl that works for german postal service was really not amused.

Well the knives were still in good condition, as I packed them seperately. So I sent them off again in hope of a better ending this time. And now I see these great pics of the knives in woods of Good Ol' UK in a much better home.

Thanks for the story, Thom! I´m glad I can call you a friend :)

Cheers!

Wonderful story, Tom!!
I could hear the jungle sounds as you were stalking!! (or was it the skirl of the Pipes??)
Anyhoo I am glad you survived, well-armed and well-fed!!
Nice going, Andi!!

Thanks for all the comments folks. I thought Andi's generosity deserved some extra effort in the tale-telling department.

Here you go. I was actually referring to Indian figs (at least, that's how I think they're called), a plant which is quite common in the Mediterranean area, and that delivers sweet fruits with awful spines....

Ah ha. That seems like the perfect tool for avoiding the thorny protection on these cacti.

Clearly there is nothing safe from being made into liqueur in the Med ;)

Andi, glad to see your comments amigo. Thank you again for thinking of Jen and I the first time round. It sure is a pity some of those tasty treats didn't arrive.

It's funny how you mentioned the cute post girl again... ;)

I shall be toting the Jagdknicker over this bank holiday weekend as we are away camping. Testing out the new lavvo.

(This time last year my last tent allowed a night time invader, in the form of a hedgehog come and sit on Jen's head at 1am, as it tried to escape a downpour. Pure comedy!)

I think the doodle-sack would be the perfect accompaniment indeed.

Thanks.
