Hunting with your Spyderco - post pics if ya got ‘em

Oh, forgot to mention that the gun was $89.00 when he bought it.

Mine is the exact same, 12 guage/3 inch magnum. I bought mine at a Walmart, I think around 1989. I know I was out of high school and in the beginning of college and I remember it being around $90. We must have the same taste in shotguns! I just purchased my only other shotgun just last October, a 1956 Remington 870 Wingmaster. Its almost in too good of shape to drag through the woods, but I use it on easy squirrel hunts. The same place i bought mine at has a very old Wingmaster in 16 guage that is pretty nice shape, but just rough enough that adding a few more scratches won't hurt the value, but 16 guage shells are kind of pricey around here.

Sorry, I've never taken a photo of it... but I live on 90 acres in rural Oklahoma... I get deer every year. Last couple of years I've gotten more exotic in my knife choices but for the first 15 years or so it was always the same one out there... Spyderco Tim Wegner, large, combo blade. I don't even like combo blades but when you are field dressing a deer before you try to get it home, it comes in handy. There has been a lot of blood on that knife. I was recently in Colorado and stopped at Spyderco with that knife for them to touch it up. Some of them had never even seen one. It was truly a great design. "Only ATS-34 steel" ... would be even better with one of today's super steels.

My first gun was a HR single shot too and my dad told me the same thing. Lol. That’s funny !! My dad had a great Sense of humor. I miss that about him. Great pics. Mine was a combo barrel. Came with a 30/30 and 20 g. Barrel

My Farid K2 lives in my archery pack (old pic). :)

Ha, that stool is probably 20 years old and about ready to die. You can see where two of the legs are poking through in that pic. I have caught hundreds of fish sitting on it icefishing and shot many critters sitting on it in the woods. I lost it on an elk hunt in Colorado a few years ago in the timber and by chance stumbled upon it a few days later. I usually just tuck it under the belt strap on my fanny pack while walking and it must have fallen out without me noticing. I am getting older so I am looking forward to replacing it. My back really wants me to get one that it just a little taller. It is a little short now for this middle aged man's back. :)

Is that Granby?

Nice, sure looked like it to me. :D I usually spend 3-5 days on there every ice season. One of my favorite lakes to ice.

Yup, when I lived out there I hit it probably a dozen times each winter. It’s a big lake and it took me a while to figure it out but there are some big Lakers in there when you do find them. Pulled a 38 incher out one year. Slayed them all day that day. Of course, there were many days of just drinking beer and freezing my butt off out there too. Definitely gets cold there!

I have a buddy that lives up there, and we do a fishing club trip every year too. I've fished it in conditions from a whiteout blizzard (glad we had a shelter that time, it came out of nowhere), to sunny and 60's. A few years back, during our club trip, we fished off Dike 3. First thing in the morning, we had punched a bunch of holes on the ridge out off shore from there, and as we were all walking to the holes, my brother picked one and dropped his big white tube jig to the bottom. I hadn't taken 3 more steps, and he was hooked up on a BIG one!!! It turned out to be 38"! After a few quick photos, the beast was returned to the to the water to fight another day.

He dropped his jig back down the hole, and again, immediately hooked up AGAIN!!! It felt like another monster, and we all wondered if it was the same fish? Guess what? It wasn't!!! It was a fatter 39" fish! SMH. After that action first thing, our group of ~15 moved around a bit, and only landed 2 small fish the rest of the day. We blamed my brother for using up all of our luck for the day!

Last year's club trip was one of our best. All 12 people there caught at least 2 each, and there were 4 with us who had never been ice fishing before. Even better, my son caught the biggest of the day at almost 22"! It was his first time at Granby! Love that lake!!! :D
