Hurricane Florence

The tub thing doesn't work for me as it seems the gasket allows a slow leak. I have quite a few 5 gallon buckets that can be filled with water primarily for toilets and so forth. I also keep a fair amount of store bought bottled water around; usually a couple cases.

The freezing idea is good. My Dad would do that for water he takes on hikes in the summer months. It would work nicely for keeping the freezer colder for a while; probably a couple days if the freezer started out cold.

Lots of rain from this hurricane in the Wilmington NC area. It is hard for me the fathom 30 inches of rain in a single day.

Getting your house wired properly for a direct generator plug in is not real expensive generally if done by an electrician. Don't do the plug into your inside plug approach. You could easily be placing more amps on that plug then it is rated for and potentially start a fire.

Saw on the news that someone's house burnt down because they placed their generator too close to the building. Got to pay attention.

Also saw that they are doing a lot of water rescues already. I don't understand that.... those people should have evacuated or live with their decision to stay put. Life is a fragile thing sometimes.

I plugged the drain then duct tape over then filled the tub, so far it’s holding.
You could jam a rag in there then duct tape if you don’t have s plug.

Generators have to have 5 feet distance all round. It’s ashame people die every year from running generators in their garage or home.

When it's pouring rain down, it is real tempting to place your generator inside your garage with the door partially open. I suspect this would work okay if the garage is pretty empty of vehicles and you have good clearance around the generator that is running. Generators and rain impact don't mix very well. The other concern with generators outdoors is that people steel them, desperate people during an event such as this.

This is the generator we currently have (Vendor Photo). It runs just fine in direct rain. Don't ask me how I know but rest assured I know. It's a pull start and I've been thinking of using this one for the pump house (well) and getting a 7000 Watt, self/electric starting one for the house.

We have power and it appears this one just missed us. We usually lose power for several days a year from a small amount of snow and or ice. This area gets alot of ice storms that rip down power lines. The generator will be used, or I can use it on some of my painting jobs that are without power.

I usually keep a. Decent amount of water, and TP stocked, so no harm done in prepping.

Getting rain and some wind now, nothing to raise any alarms. Power is up no running.

Not much going on here in the upstate. My daughter is working twelve hour shifts at the television station (she's an executive producer). The weather guys always make a big deal out of everything since the Hugo debacle. The flooding will be the biggest problem next week.
