Well the scenes of destruction are pouring in ( as in water ). So I would imagine the rest of the world especially the foreign business interests are flooding ( as in water ) our government with offers of disaster help, just as this country has always done for everyone else. As the old left wing peacenick song used to echo WHEN WE WILL WE EVER LEARN. Well with Schrade gone that will cut down on the amount of oil being used in Ellenville this winter. LT

Rich,
I called the Prime Minister after reading your post! He told me that we couldn't send any Doctors or Nurses since most of ours were already down there in the States already.
I asked if we could send money to help out, and he told me that any money we might spare was "already in trust' with the US Government due to the "Softwood Lumber Dispute".
I asked if we could send some food to help those folks who lost everything, and he told me that the US Government wouldn't allow any beef from any animal over 30 months old into the States.
I then asked if we could send crews to help repair the electrical systems, and he told me that we couldn't because most don't have their passports.
See, I really tried.

Wow you know the prime minister. Your right Del to many problems and I agree our govenment is screwed up like I said WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN, in any event, no sweat, we will get through it but thanks anyway for trying. Frankly I do not think of Canada as being foreign or a stranger more like a brother or family member. If the Prime Minister is short have him give me a ring I am always willing to help out a family member as most Americans have shown in the past they are, in fact Canada, is one of the few countrys in the world to have shown there willingness to support and help this country whenever it was needed. In spite of the idiot rules we subject it to. Once again there is an awful lot wrong with this country and its policys that is the main reason Schrade is closed. You have to excuse me I have to finish making out my check for Tsunami relief Oh yes and the one for African relief it is quite a list. At least now I know where to get a steak for a decent price the cost of beef has risen sharply, part of the reason for that is the very point you make. Do you think Mr Taylor could ask his friends in communist China if they could spare a few rubber rafts. Or at least discount them. I understand there offer of help was an offer to buy louisiana ( since it was flooded ) as long as they could get a tax exemption as a religious organization. Another glorious American tradition. Lets see Have I pretty much ticked off every one AHH bed time. LT PS just one more thing at least I still have the right to complain about all of this even though I truly know it does no good. Are the flags still on Taylors boxes or has the govenment stepped in as was assured they would to get them off a chinese product?

Thanks for your efforts, Del.

I have a friend that works as a volunteer through his church and the American Red Cross. He got the call yesterday and is heading south. Last time I gave him a Schrade multitool, which has still has and it is packed up with the small amount of stuff he can take.

I'd like to do stuff like that, once I retire. If I'm not too old and beat to hell by then to be of any assistance.

Phil

I'm glad that both of you took it as was intended. I too dispare over the crazy things our Governments do.
To the folks of LA, AL, and MS - my heart goes out to you, and I hope that soon your lives can return to somewhat normal.

We stand alone. They say that mankind is at its best when things are at there worst. Why that should be I could never figure out but it has been true in the past and at the risk of being labeled a harbinger of doom. I fear that test awaits to be taken to a higher level. There is an old song Johnny Cash did called ragged old flag one line is Shes been through the fire before but I believe she can take a whole lot more. So we put her up every morning take her down every night we don't let her touch the ground and we fold her up right on second thought I do like to brag cause I am mighty proud of that ragged old flag. We shall absorb the effects of this storm as a great sponge laps up a spill. We shall take the moisture, the dead, the destruction, and spit it back to mother nature and utter, "is that the best youve got". While our enemies froth at our gates like hyenas we shall pick our selves up and shoo them away with gentleness and patience. When gas goes to 5 dollars a gallon we will invent a way to use something else for power and this country in its incredible idiotic wonderful way will figure a way to do it with out hurting a snail darter or any other endangered specie, and while we bury our dead we will still extend the offer and the hand of help to any one who needs it. Even if that cause is not popular and costs american lives. We apparently are not to bright, we allow other nations to usurp our industry, we spare our enemies and rebuild there nations. We welcome into this country those who would chortle with joy at our demise. We are naive, we are petty in rulings against our few friends. We are hated for our acts of kindness when I look at all this I say what the hell are we and then I remember. WE ARE AMERICANS. LT

They did critisize our enviromental policy which I think they have a right to do but they have offered assistance. I have to admit I was surprised. I have not heard of any others. Maybe I will buy a Boker eventually.

better watch it phil, you best buy a used one becuase they're made in argentina now! It's a sad country we live in. We can send tons of food water and money to other countries to help them with natural disasters 6 hours later, but we have people here that have been waiting on overpasses and starving with no drinkable water for 3 days! and they are just now taking action, I sure hope mr. bush is having a good time on his VACATION!
this is a screwed up country we live in. sad, but true. have a good one and think of those disaster victims in the country we live in because the govenment sure as h#@! won't.

I mentioned 5 dollar a gallon gas but I really didn't think it would be this week which at the rate it has jumped might happen. Let see I have 2 lbs of beans and 5 cases of whiskey put away as emergency supplies. Just one question what the heck will I do with all those beans. LT

I think there are enough carbohydates=sugars in those beans to convert them to moonshine when you run out of whiskey.....just don't light any cigars nearby.

Bill

Gas here in TN went over three bucks a gallon today. There is talk of it going to four like it has in Atlanta. Buy toothpicks, and have whisky martinis. Pickled beans might be good!

maybe the political mudslinging should be kept over in the political forum... ;)

Glenn

The effect of beans is non-partisan. Dems, Reps, and people of every nationality are equally effected by them!

How true, it's all hot air and gas, doesn't matter which side of the aisle you are on... :D

The strong helps the weak but the weak don't give back much. When will they ever learn?...

In Veracruz Grandma used to make the best black beans, she let them cook overnight in that old clay pot with some epazote, and served them next day with white rice and fresh hand made tortillas, soooo good....

For forum content: Where have all the Schrade knives gone ?...

Also sung by Pete Seeger:

There are beans beans that make you fill your jeans...
