Hurricane Irene - How did you fare?

We are in MD and overall did OK. We had half of a large oak tree in our back yard come down, but it didn't hit the house, so now we just need to get someone to take the rest of the tree out. We also had part of a fence go down, but that should be an easy fix. Other than that, we came out relatively unscathed, so we're very thankful. How did the rest of you fare?

There was a mandatory evacuation on the street my place is on in RI. For work related reasons I am in Western MA. I called my neighbor and he said all is well and nobody he knows evacuated. The water was high but he has seen worst. Here in Western MA, just a bit windy and wet. In fact my father put some pork on the grill outside for pulled pork for dinner tonight.

I hope all is well with everybody.

Southern NH here. Power is out, but it doesn't look all that terrible out. I think we got it pretty mild but its still going on. Good luck.

Completely soaked. Surrounded by forest, but luckily none of it came down on me or mine.

Raking necessary and some general clean-up, but we really came through this just fine. Didn't even run out of power (our neighborhood has underground power).

Raleigh, NC - all is fine. Lost power a couple of times. But other than that...some trees down.

Have friends in Cape Hatteras that I still cannot contact - even by cell phone. Hope all is well?

Trees down pretty much everywhere. Some house and roof damage from falling trees and wind in my neighborhood but thankfully no damage to our house. Quite a few big trees came down across roads as well. Power is a bit spotty.

Lots of rain here in Western Massachusetts (Greenfield) but not much wind. It's not over yet, flood waters are just starting to rise, but I live half-way up a hill where I'll be fine no matter how much it floods. I'm a little concerned about some friends but not at all for myself.

I'm in Rahway,NJ.No power since early this morning.I'm posting from my phone.
Most of the town close to the river is under water.Good thing I'm on an incline.
There's trees down all over.

Trees down everywhere , many without power . A few huge limbs down in my back yard ( junglas will be happy ) ... I didn't lose power but my garage had about 8 inches of water in it !!! It was about an inch shy of entering the house so I consider myself very lucky ... Best wishes to everyone else .

Texas, no rain here, but thanks to irene, the temp has been 113 here in the houston area for 2 days now!!

we are expecting the brunt of it tonight around high tide here on the coast... a 3-7 foot storm surge is predicted. The wind is 40 knots with gusts to 55 and the seas are at 15 plus feet. We spent the last 3 days moving our lobster traps out into deeper water..There is only so much one can do and after that, cross your fingers and hope for the best. I won't be going back out until the seas subside, Tuesday at the earliest, and we will see if we are still in business :o if so, it's three more days of moving the gear back to the lobsters if they are not too banged up...if they are, who knows how long it will be before they are repaired and can fish again...

If they are gone, hopefully we can get some disaster relief to replace them...520 traps plus rope and buoys are about $35-40,000 worth of fishing gear new. One bad storm and that is that...Irene was predicted to be much worse than it is now, originally a Category 3, then a Category 1, and now a Tropical Storm...so most of the lobstermen and gillnetters erred to the side of caution and moved their traps deeper or brought in their nets.

I was in your neighborhood delivering bottled water a week or so back. I'm glad to hear you made it through unscathed. I was worried.

in central mass we got a few inches of rain. i have a few leaves down in my yard and there is a slight breeze outside. weathermen really nailed this one...haha

Not too rough here either. Wind damage, and we lost power most of the day, but really made out well considering. Some heavy flooding and storm surge up north. It looks like some dams might give way, and some bridges have been washed out.

Hope everyone else is safe...

I slipped out down the DelMarVa just before she hit.
Hoodbridge huh. That explains some things.

Glad to hear.

The area here is pretty nice, but there ARE places that really do earn that monicker "Hoodbridge." Be careful.

Lakeridge is good ... the County (out where I actually live) is also just fine. But Dale City and some of the Woodbridge neighborhoods nearer I95 or Route 1 are "iffy" at best.

Ct guy here:
Lost power this morning for about 45 minutes
4 ft of water in the driveway and my sandbag barrier held up as well as can be expected.
Downed trees and major power outages in Waterbury. CL&P says 700,000+ customers with out power.
One elderly lady killed town over from live wire house fire. Husband not so hot.
2 missing in Southbury (idiots, since they decided to go tubing)
Overall not a fun storm, but survived just fine. Friend kinda had a laugh when I loaded up my K5 with my gear and straps and axes. Weren't laughing when a tree fell across driveway and then made that phone call to me.

Sorry to all who did loose much and godspeed.

Around here it looks like fall came early with all the leaves on the ground. Unfortunately neighboring towns were hit with floods and power outages so I consider myself very fortunate.
