Hurricane Irene - How did you fare?

Around here it looks like fall came early with all the leaves on the ground. Unfortunately neighboring towns were hit with floods and power outages so I consider myself very fortunate.

where are you from? Its odd how one town is fine and the next is demolished. Bethlehem is 100% power loss at the moment. I have power but the end of my road is out and large area from there is out.

A few big limbs in my parents yard. One very big limb. Spent most of Sunday cleaning up. No damage. Lost power at 11:55PM on Sat. . Power was restored some time early PM Sunday. Drove to the beach late Sunday night. Can't see a whole lot in the dark. Just some brush piles and limbs down and some big puddles here and there. Not far north of here more than a dozen homes were damaged or destroyed by a tornado. I may check that out tomorrow. My prayers go out to those who were lost. Hope you guys are all ok.

Here in NY state 900,000 without power , many roads closed ,evacuations .The wind came after heavy rains .By then the ground was soaked and it didn't take much to push over the trees.
Total deaths for Irene so far 21 , including a woman who insisted on driving into the water and was washed away !
I'm just chilling out ,generator powered .Don't know how far I could go anyway as so many roads are blocked .

Vermont is a disaster zone. Entire towns got flooded and most major roads/highways have been completely washed away in spots. Many people/towns are separated and have become stranded. It will probably turn out to be the single worst disaster to ever hit the state. There is only one fatality, however.

My house was spared, as were pretty much all homes in my town. But we still got flooded out in places.

my boat was still there :) and pretty much unscathed...the storm here wasn't much more powerful than a winter noreaster. inland got the brunt of it. the seas topped out at 16 feet...hopefully the lobster gear is still intact, or at least still there...I'll know tomorrow...

I'm in Vermont. really bad here, but our house and two apt. buildings didn't suffer any flooding or damage. One house has no power for they say up to 4 days. My favorite pizza place now leans against my barber's building, when the pizza place was taken off its foundation and moved about 20 feet sideways.

I feel bad for a lot of people who lost everything. In Rutland, the supervisor of the water treatment plant and his son (also a DPW worker) both died when a retaining wall gave in just as they were trying to inspect an adjacent culvert. Terrible tragedy and terrible luck. A minute earlier and they'd have been gone before it gave way; a minute later and they wouldn't have gone to inspect.

I will say, though, that despite feeling lucky, I was not best pleased to discover that my brand new $25,000 standing seam metal roof leaks like a sieve around the chimney, and my roofer is not calling us back!

Not much damage in my yard, some limbs from a couple large silver maples.
Worked the storm in southern Litchfield county in CT, spent Sunday night out in the weather removing downed trees and keeping the roads open, 30+ hour shift, 1 hour sleep. Never seen so much rain at one time. Trees and wires everywhere, some won't have power for days and smaller roads may not be passable for days due to trees hanging in the power lines. Lots of flooding, a couple smaller towns had several feet of water running through them. Two fools decided to that canoeing down Main St in Bristol would be cool. The police found the canoe wrapped around a tree downstream, one survived, one didn't.

I hope it is all still there. Glad to hear the boat (and you) made it.

Sorry about getting back to you so late. I'm in New Britain. It's really unfortunate how some other folks made out.

I had a little water in the basement, a leak in one picture window, and no power for six days. Not too bad, considering that there are still folks without power here in CT.
