Hurricane Sandy landfall

I was planning on heading down to Ocean City, MD, over the weekend. Guess where the almost always accurate European weather station predicts Sandy will make landfall? Ocean City MD! How does a European weather station get so accurate in regards to western hemisphere weather? The general concensus is that Sandy wil make landfall between Norfolk and Maine, so it's narrowed down :D. I don't mind a little rain, and was going to still head down there, until I read this. Getting pounded Sunday night into Monday by heavy rains and wind is not my idea of a vacation. Some tracking monitors show that it might come right up the Chesapeake Bay. I live about an hour north of Baltimore, so no fun staying at home either. I am not out any money if I stay home this weekend, I'm trying to find out if any other times are available, if not, I'll go next spring. Be safe out there this weekend.

I am laughing at this storm as it passes my front porch :) its right now a few hundred miles directly east of my current location. All I'm getting is wind and some clouds...sure wish some rain would head my way.

Remember , this could be THE BIG ONE , LOL,LOL !

We got our revenge the time when a hurricane went up the coast made a little loop and continued north !! The weather people freeked out -they can't do that !! Well it did ! I no longer pay any attention !

Some years ago I remember seeing a Nat Geo doccie about weather prediction and the one NOAA scientist compared weather prediction models to aviation development. He said that weather prediction was now at a comparable stage to the DC3 in aviation terms.........

I wanted to tell him that if the DC3 was as unreliable as the weather forecast prediction models, we would have lost the war!!:p

If the damn thing does get near you......please be careful folks.......:)

Yeah, that's what I said last year about "Irene". I'm sure the folks of Prattsville and Windham N.Y. would agree with you.
I'm getting my sump pump, generator, chain saw and beer supply ready.

Looks like it could get bad. I'm almost wishin' I was back east. I got ~ 3" of snow on my car from the line that is expected to meet up with Sandy along with the cold air coming down from Canada. Be safe and enjoy the show. :/

Some people I know are taking this way to seriously. I'm kind of excited. First time that I'm am going to witness a hurricane.

Back in 05 me and my family took our roof off to begin the second story build on. That was the most hurricane active year in 20 years. And I live spittin' distance form the coast so we caught it all from tropical storms to Cat2 hurricanes. The house was covered in a giant tarp ( 25x40 footer). We all became decent 'sailors' at the end of that hurricane season lol. We can now unfurl and fasten any tarp under just about any wind and rain conditions :)

Anything up to a Cat2 I'll sit and ride out. Cat3 and bigger I'll send the family away and keep some helpers to "defend" the house agents wind and tree damage. Rain isn't to much a problem in a swamp. it gets wet and muggy but it all gets soaked up.

I stopped at Walmart tonight to get my regular provisions (iced tea and chips for game day/movie night), that store looked like Christmas time and the blizzard of all blizzards rolled into one.

Wow that's rough. I'm a few hours away from the coast and I haven't experienced anything too bad.

Yup whenever we get blizzards here my family does the same. Microvable snacks and boardgames.Last time it was packed with people getting floodlights and snowblowers and such.

Well, I'll be reserving judgement until I see what happens. These weather folks tend to be like the media and exaggerate their tales. I've got flashlight batteries, dry goods, and camp stove, and lots of ammo and a full jug of whiskey. I think most are over reacting.

When they predict plague and locusts I'll start to worry!

The weathermen and the grocery stores are in league together! :D

Not just the grocery stores but hardware stores too.
Buddy of mine works at home depot and said they sold over a hundred generators in one morning.
I am right on the coast but not on a island.
Hurricane party time. Supplies on hand. Gas tanks full and good stock of batteries.
They are closing the islands but wish I could go out to watch the waves. Neat to see the big rollers.
Good luck to anyone else in the path. Keep your head down.

Yuppers, glad I live on a hill...the commissary on base had some bare spots on the shelves, bottled water, etc.
Have lots of eneloops charged, charcoal for the grill, and a few bottles of propane for the Coleman stove set aside...just in case. First complete winter in NE is starting off with bang.

Down here there are used (but unused) generators available at a steep discount after every hurricane season, definitely a case of the weatherman shilling for the big box home improvement chains. OTOH, going without power for a week+ is annoying under any circumstance and, I'd imagine, potentially very dangerous for some of the folks up north. It is a late season storm after all.

Take care everyone, especially those near the coast. I wouldn't be evacuating if I was up there, but I wouldn't ignore this storm either. It might not be the strongest but it sure is a big one.
