My friend Ren has had some health concerns that forced him to lose weight. He did what I couldn't do, which was to stop eating solid food for twelve weeks. His thread is here if you haven't read it.

I've had a battle with my weight for most of my adult life. I've seen a high of 247 lbs and fought my way down as low as 147 lbs. That's a hundred pounds difference. I've been losing and gaining the same 20-30 for the last 20 years and I'm tired of it. When I relocated to Houston in Feb. I was about 240 lbs. One of the reasons I made the move was a free health club in the building where I work. No reason not to exercise.

At first I was living in a motel with no kitchen, so it was either eat out or out of a can. I was working out four to five days a week, mostly on the treadmill. I did lose weight. I went from about 240 to 220. In April I finally moved into and apartment and I can cook for myself. May first I started back on Atkins. I've done Atkins before and had success with it. I didn't cheat, but I did make some mistakes the first couple of weeks. I've corrected those mistakes and I'm losing weight again.

My goal weight is 180. 20% over your ideal weight is considered obese, so that would be 36 lbs. 180 + 36 equals 216. I'm 215 lbs. today, so I'm just under Obese .... HURRRAY!!!!!!!

Hey, if you remove all those stag handled knives outta your pockets, you'll probably save a good bit more weight too! ;) :D

I weight myself buck-nakid, I may have some folds but no pockets. ;)

5' 10" and actually there's not one ounce of fat on my body, it's all unorganized muscle. :D

How tall are you Phil?

I can't get my double chin to go over my shoulder to see if a guy named Ahab is chasing me! ;)

Well, on your website, you sure as hell don't look obese! But then again I haven't seen you from you bathroom scale's POV :p
I don't know which picture from my album site you're looking at. I think I carry the weight fairly well, but I'm still way over what I should be. I also must confess I can do just about anything I want in Photoshop. ;)

Wild Bill's 2004 are fake's, I knew it  :D

Nope, them are all un-retouched. There was a bunch of folks I showed those pics in the camera when I got back to the Pit at the Waverly; Kit Carson, Mike Obenauf, Ken Colluchi, Jeremy Reynolds and a bunch of other people. It breaks my heart I won't be going back to Wild Bill's this year. :(

If this girl was still there I was going to marry her...

...my wife gave me permission. :D

I hate the BMI. Want to know why?

When I was big into weightlifting in HS, I was right at 245 and 5-11. That's obese. Never mind I had a normal body-fat percentage, that was obese. Now, cutting the fat reserves down to low-normal, I'm at 200 and 5-11. Still overweight. I can punch through a darn wall, and that's overweight?

S&S, I would think most people would agree with you regarding BMI #'s. It doesn't take into consideration all of the factors.
I'm focusing instead on my ideal weigh, or when I was in my best shape and condition. A toned 180 lbs at 56 would be great.

I'm working on 250 as my long term. I'm 350 now, I was more, thankfully, I've been losing steadily. You can tell if you're fat, obese or in shape. If you're comfortable with a few extra pounds, great. If you're husband or wife, boyfriend or girlfriend is okay with a few extra pounds, even better. I feel bad for the ginormous people who are happy being 500 pounds etc. I'm sure as hell not happy being 350 and 6'3"! It can be done, I went from 350 to 270 about five years ago, just walking 3 miles a day, a form of Atkins and weight training.

At least you got lei-d!
Good for you (just leave out the buck nekkid imagery next time).

I did that body-mass index site. I am 5'11" tall and weigh 200 lbs. According to the site, I am overweight! Ok, so I could lose about 8 pounds and still be on the thin side of ok. However, in order for the site to tell me that I'm not 'overweight', I have to slim down to about 178 lbs! That's just ridiculous. If I did such, I know I'd simply be too skinny for my frame. And therein lies the quandary: what sort of frame does the BMI base its results on? I am 5'11" and weigh 200 lbs; I have met guys who are 5'11" and weigh 230, yet are not overweight, at all. They simply have larger musculo-skeletal structures than I. Conversely, I've met guys my height who weigh 170 and yet are the perfect weight for their build. Therefore, the BMI is to be taken with a very, very large grain of salt.

Personnaly, i did start to loose weight when i ended with soda (coke, 7up, ect).
Just drink water!
At the end of the day, it makes a hudge caloric difference ! :D

Then reduce the No of french fries/chips you eat every week, that would continue the process ! (reduce the sauce also !)

That's easy to follow, does'nt cost much and has proved to be efficient !

Good luck on the weight loss Phil,I am also having my own personal battle of the buldge :)
