Hydraulic powerpacks, questions

I agree that thei jacks wont be fast enough, but add the air assisted like they taked about on the other forum mentioned above and it would work. The main press was what I was looking at for ideas.I like the strength look of the pro model but with a quicker hydraulic system..

I like the table top model to save shop space.I need to start a new thread and not hyjack this one ato discuss some new design ideas I am thinking about,as soon as I get a couple of pictures I will start the new thread.

Finally got a new camera so I can post pics of the completed press I spoke of earlier in this thread...

Here is the overall press. It is air over hydraulic 20 ton. Foot pedal for operating is in the foreground.

Here is close up of dies. These are the flat dies 2" X 1.5".

Side view showing air cylinder. Drawing die is in forground.

Here's a couple of pics of a W2 billet that was drawn out with the press. It started as a 1" slice of a 2" round. You can see four of the 2" bars in the upper left of the picture.

Checkout my table top 20 ton H press . It is mounted on top of my pipe threader. Still got to make some dies for it.

There are some great ideas here. I like the smaller presses you guys are coming up with. There no reason to have a huge one for most forging in a knife shop.

Geo, did you mount your H press to your pipe threader so you can twist bars?

That was the idea, but the pipe threader is consistent when you shut it off. One time it will make another half turn after you switch it off, the next time 3/4 of a turn and etc.:jerkit::jerkit: I tried to replace the switch, but that was another can of worms. This sucker was built in the forties and is built like a tank.:D Makes a good solid stand, anyways. HEHEHEHEHE!!!

Good looking press IG. What is used for the ram? Cannot tell from the picture. Is it a small hydraulic cylinder or an air over jack? Man, looks like you built that thing to handle 50 tons!:thumbup::D

20 ton Enerpac. I use the same hydraulic unit on both presses, I have a T in one of the lines. The stroke is only 3''. If I remember correctly.;)
