Hydraulic Press Build: comments please

It is my assertion that a 7.5 hp motor, with that pump, will make you a nice fast press with good push up to at least 25 tons. I don't think the noise is a huge consideration, I've used the Riverside presses for instance with a 3450 motor and they are fine, with earmuffs.

Salem thanks for breaking that down for us. I plan on ordering Dr. Batson's book before I get serious about building mine, but until then this has been a very informative post.

Willie please do a build thread if you could. There are not a lot of them out there for presses.

Al's press works good but man it is loud..

I guess it really is... I've only used the ones on Forged in Fire, and it's so loud in there anyway that I guess the press didn't stand out so much. That, and I was preoccupied with some kind of a knifey thing I was trying to make.

We have one Salem. Its loud(though all presses can be loud) but we have no problem punching and drifting some pretty big pieces with it. The way the frame is made we made bolsters so you can drift with it to.

You need to buy or fabricate a mount for the pump. Wire it in as you would any electrical motor.

I like salems press. I hope in the future to replace mine with one like his.
