harbor freight has a 20 ton bottle jack press. any inputs on applying it to forging with modifications such as 20 ton hydraulic piston, anvil & etc.

If you are going to do that much modification wouldn't it be easier to build one from Jim Batson's plans? How about a log splitter?

A few days ago I inquired about building a hydralic press. Only had one response on tonage. Were does one get these Jim Batson plans on a press. I am leaning towards a bench mounted unit(no floor space left).

you can get batsons plans from don fogg's web site, dont have the site address just do a search and it will come up, tonage decides the size billet you can work. more tonnage = less time& larger billets, but also requires more gpm to get the same speed, less speed will require more trips back to the forge. it's all acording to what you can afford or scrounge up. i've been building mine for 2 1/2 years and still have a ways to go. if i was to build one i would say 25 to 30 tons a minium.

hope this helps some

Don's website is www.dfoggknives.com you can get the plans by e-mailing him they are $28 Dr. Batson did some intensive research for his design, don't have one but hear they are very good.
