Anyone know what steel hydrolic rams are made of? Or at least if its worth using to forge with? Wait let me guess, most are low carbon but a few odd ones would work but there is no easy way to tell the difference. This is just me being optimistic.

most likely it will be a mild steel that has been polished or chromed. You can take a piece and put it on the belt grinder if it puts out real complex flowery sparks it may have a high enough content to forge into something useful. You could also forge some and heat treat it then break it and look at the grain structure. The finer the grain the better off you are.
