hypothetical paranoia question.

well i am not sure about the so called crime scene question. but i do know that i always wipe and pollish my blades everytime that i use them to prevent rust spots from appearing. But i would always pollish and sharpen my knife if i was getting ready to sell it.

I agree, it is a good idea to keep records of the transaction and wipe the knife completely down (for legal and corrosive reasons). W/ records only (God forbid somehow they did find your prints) it would still be an unpleasant experiance having the police approach and possibly arrest you before the problem is worked out. A major hassle for sure even w/o the legal fees.

I believe it was William S. Burroughs who said "A paranoid is a man who is extremely aware."

An interesting post w/ some great responses.

I don't know about the other stuff, but I can certainly attest to the corrosiveness of at least my finger prints. I happened to be in a knife store one day, contemplating a purchase. I started out looking at a CS Trailmaster bowie, and as a normal practice held the knife by the blade and looked lengthwise down the edge to see if it was rolled, etc. I wanted to compare it to something else, so I set the knife down on the counter and asked the sales guy to show me a SOG Tigershark I think. Anyway the guy didn't wipe down the Trailmaster when I set it down and after about 5 minutes, I could see the beginnings of my fingerprint being etched into the blade! Fortunately, I was able to rub most of it out with my shirt, and the clerk had a polishing cloth to take the rest out. So - I second Mr. Gollick's thoughts.
