Ok. You're on your own, America is in the middle of a revolution, collapse, etc. Your house has been burned to the ground, and so has most everybody else's. Lucky you, you just happen to be a knife dealer with a lot of stock on hand, and a gun collector. You've got to head to the hills to survive You have picked out a nice rifle and pistol already. You have room for one folder, one fixed blade, and a multi tool. You will use these to safeguard your life, hunt, cook, eat, everything. What do you choose ?

"and hurry, I think I hear helicopters"

Well, the multi-tool is easy: the Wave. the folder, well, that's a tough one. Immediately I thought of the large Sebenza, even though I don't own one. However, I'm going to choose the AG Russell Brute. And the fixed blade, well, I have to ask what kind of hellish nightmare of a world is worth living in if I can only have ONE fixed blade??? OK, OK, I'll go with the Griffin Tracker. That is assuming that I can't choose an axe for my fixed blade.

I'll go with the Griffin Tracker
Paul,
You spelled my name wrong. That is ok, I have been known to do that to (just look at my log-in name

For my choices

Probably my Tracker or Spec Ops Bowie
Folder would probably be a Sebenza
Not sure on the multi-tool

BTW, Good question

This is Ye Olde "You Only Have X Knives" thread . . . .

With any knife and any firearm, you are better equipped than the average refugee. And if your house and your neighbors' houses have just been torched, that means Your Side has just lost the first round. If you have a bunch of knives around to choose from, you'll want to pick a few for yourself (how many pockets do you have?) and hand the rest out to other People on Your Side.

Have you managed to find some hills you can head for that aren't already occupied by a lot of other refugees or a lot of other fighters or both? Look back at what you've seen on CNN over the last decade. When a lot of people head for the hills at once, they're low on food, shelter, and clean water, and mortality runs high, even when guys with artillery don't use refugees for target practice.

Chances are you'll have company when you head for the hills. Your family, you hope. And you hope you're in a organized guerilla band and not a column of refugees. Somebody should have an axe, and somebody should have a machete, and somebody should have a shovel. Don't forget the shovel. Even if you don't need to did a fox hole, you'll need one, because if you and everybody else don't bury your doo-doo, then post-apocalyptic dysentery may well get you before The Others do.

And don't forget the water filter.

Since I have a firearm or two in this scenario, I'm not planning on doing a lot of knife fighting, and the main use of the fixed blade knife is likely to be preparing what food I can come by. But it should be able to handle heavy duty, in case I get separated from my specialized tools. A Fallkniven A1 would work as a general duty knife. If that's riding on my right side, I might want a left-handed Sebenza. The multi-tool (LM Wave, or a SpydeRench, if somebody else in the group has something with needle-nose pliers and scissors) would come in handy for fixing things, and being able to fix things might be a reason somebody else would be willing to share food with you.

And the reality of such a situation will be left out.

An axe would be nice to have though.

Ontario 18-inch machete (No way I'd want to be a refugee without a machete. Ask anyone who's actually been one and I think they'll agree.)

Spyderco Tim Wegner (You said folder, and I'd probably need a knife for dressing game.)

Leatherman Wave (For fixing things.)

What the hell, these are fun once in a while;

folder: one of my own navajas(available in small quantities some time next year, with any luck)

fixed blade: I'd be happy with the one currently in my possesion, a Chris Reeve Project 1. It can fight, kill boar, and do the utility thing. How tough is a real Bagwell Hell's Belle? Maybe one of those. I ain't waste'n ammo fighting peasants.

pistol: don't know much about pistols, and since I'm leaving in late December, I just returned my Colt Detective Special. The Taurus Titanium tracker is looking good to me, if only it had one of those nifty multi-caliber cylinders. Maybe a Medusa or Blackhawk with multi-caliber capacity. The ability to fire .357, .38, and 9mm through the same gun is a decided advantage.

rifle: I know a little more about these. An honest to gosh M-16A2, or a good AR-15 if I will be in a situation where there will be a lot of paramilitaries. In a true end of civilization scenario, maybe one of those Enfield No. 1 Mk. 2's that Navy Arms was offering, the cut down "tanker carbine" rechambered for .308, with bayonet and some extra mags or stripper clips, and one of those bitch'n chest bandoliers like from The Lighthorsemen.

It'd look great with my K-pot and a olive drab canvas coat, my big black boots, some brown drawstring pants, a loose fitting muslin shirt, some level III balisitic armor, and some body armor made from old tires. Everyone in the Apocolypse has to look cool. I'd shave my head so the lumps and scars show too.

There'd be something to be said for one of those lever action .357 carbines too, sharing ammo and all.

As far as multitools go, can I have a pair of needle nose pliers, regular pliers, one of those screwdrivers with interchangable bits, and a claw hammer instead? Not much I'd want to do that I couldn't do with those.
