This is just an academic discussion, like the guys who are still arguing cut vs thrust after 150 years of obsolescence.

What would make a better fighting knife?

Ontario SP10 or KA-BAR?

And no, I'm not planning on buying either for that purpose, just like I don't plan on buying a T-34 or a Pzkw III when I post a "vs" thread on a WWII forum.:D

Well, i guess my answer would be: it depends. Both have thier good points. It depends on what is important to you. For simply dispatching the enemy, IMHO, the Ka-Bar. That being said, i also feel that the SP10 is a much more HD knife & would not be destroyed as easy in such a harsh enviroment. But the SP10 is 1/4" thick piece of 1095 high carbon steel w/full tang vs the rat tail or much thinner tang of the Ka-Bar. The SP10 is much heavier in weight, thicker, wider & would require more pushing power to dispatch said enemy. But it chops like a beast. It has a super sharp point as well. The Ka-Bar is lighter, faster, easier to carry & quicker to put into action w/stock sheaths. So, as i said, you'd have to make the call. I feel our troops deserve better than the tried & true Ka-Bar or the bayonettes. A Becker BK7 comes to mind. Full width, full tang, made in America, great point & is like a lightning bolt in your hand.

Since you don't mention what model Kabar you're refering to, I'm guessing you mean the 1219c2 type, or it's commercial version? The Ontario SP10 is basically a small machete, the likelihood that someone will want to lug it around in the off chance that they will get into a hand to hand situation with it is probably remote.
