Pick a fighting knife...

Last ditch, you're out of ammo, your hands are slippery with sweat and blood, this knife is your last line of defense. This isn't your EDC. The only reason you have this knife is to save your life. Not worried about carry laws, so a dagger, bowie, auto, stiletto, bali, anything goes. Fixed, folder, neck knife, your choice.

Only two rules, you have to be able to reasonably conceal it while wearing jeans and a polo and let's set a $500 price limit.

What do you want with you?

Since this is hypothetical... I'd go with the largest bowie I can conceal in a Mike Sastre southern comfort rig IWB. Helle's Belle comes to mind first.

Or... (sarcasm IS intended) DARK-OPS all the way! I've read the ad you know.

Greco Whisper, BM Nimravus, or WWI trench knife. Stick with what you know, I says...

Another vote for the BM nimravus. I wouldn't want to think about what the edge on that thing could do with a reasonably hard slash.

I'll go for a bayonet. Hell, if I have my rifle I'd rather use the rifle without a bayonet than switch to a knife. Probably not the answer you were looking for, though. Sorry.

I've read Bill Bagwell, I know the answer: Helle's Belle!!
The Bill Bagwell Hell's Belle gets my vote too, BUT I think that anyone would be pretty hard-pressed to get one for the $500 price limit, so I'd have to mention the Ontario/Bagwell Hell's Belle, as it can be had for way under $500.

BTW...Today, I received an Ontario/Bagwell "The Fortress" Bowie from a recent trade, and I wouldn't feel too "out-gunned" with that one in my hand if "the balloon" were to go up and I didn't have my 10mm Glock nearby.

Probably a bowie of some sorts. The Cold Steel Laredo bowie comes to mind.

The knife in my safe that I would consider for this role would be the MercWorx Sniper.

Ka-Bar 1217. In a back or shoulder rig sheath is concealment is a concern. Otherwise I find it more comfortable to wear it on belt with leg strab.

This is an easy one. It's called the Tactical Tanto and it's from Hanwei. It has real same on the handle for the best grip. The blade is gun blued carbon steel, and still has an authentic temper line. It also has a button lock for keeping it in it's satin-lined metal sheath. The sheath has a clip that can be adjusted to attach at the mouth, or in the middle of the scabbard for easy boot carry.
At only $124, I could carry two!
Here's a picure:

You like that? If you are into fixed blades and you plan on picking one up, you may want to bring an extra pair of pants for after you hold it.

Gerber MarkII or Benchmade Nimravus. These two are fast and well balanced. MarkII would be my topchoice.
